Hmm...Depends...Joker is of course his greatest foe because of what he does but the one that bats has the hardest time to fight would be two face since he feels guilty and since harvey was his friend. Bat's own guilt/rage is also a constant enemy of his. BUT joker has done the worst to bats so i would say joker.

The way i see it is there are quirks about alot of Bats Rouges...
Joker- no matter what he does he will probly never go away
Two-Face- same reason mentioned above
Mr Freeze- ever notice that Bats cannot really ever bring Freeze to justice...always lets him go there is a hint line of respect that the 2 men hve for each other watch episodes with them in it and you'll see my point!
Ra's- just as mysterious as Bats he for some reason is the anti batman....

Arkham16, you raise an excellent point and I hero you for it!
I was going to say that hands down Joker is Batman's greatest foe because of the damage that he has inflected on Batman's allies. (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Barbara Gordon, James Gordon)
However, you mention Two-Face due to Batman feeling guilty for Harvey's condition. Batman is driven by his guilt and anger of his parents death and Two-Face is a constant reminder to Batman that he can't save everyone.
Given my natural urge to "wax poetic", I am tempted to go one step further and suggest that Batman's greatest foe might be Batman. He never allows himself any relief from his "cause."
It raises the question as to whether the villians exist because Batman appeared and gave them the "motivation" or does Batman continue because these villans exist.
Could Gotham's greatest ally be Batman's greatest foe?
(That's the end of my philosophical rant)

Joker has done alot of damage to Batman mentally through his actions but he has never been able to best Batman physically and he never had a hard time dealing with him. so if its the question of being dealt with, i'd say Hush, Batman has yet to best him. Hush is always three steps ahead.

I started to hint that batman is in himself his greatest foe but you really put a way i could never say. Very well done Patronus!!!

For me, I think it's Ra's. He's Batman's equal.

[shadow=purple,left,300]The Joker has caused Batman so much guilt and anger on a personal level. Ra's Al Ghul, like Robin said, is Batman's equal, and he can never truly be defeated. Two-Face was created due to tragic circumstances, a former ally of Batman's that he's now forced to defeat. Those three rank, for me, as his greatest foes. It's hard to choose just one...[/shadow]

i'd say its probably first, the Joker, because hes the one Batmans come closest to actually killing. second would be either Two Face or Ra's Al Ghul. i've never really read any Two Face comics, so i don't know a whole lot about him. another i'd say is Bane, because hes the only one to actually defeat Batman.

the joker is def batmans greatest followed by two face. However during the hush storyline it really did change as it seemed that hush was batmans greatest but after the hush story ended hes jsut became another normal one. As for who could turn into his greatest i would say jason batman feels the same way towards him as he feels for two face and jason is crazy like the joker.

What a great topic. I think it's impossible to narrow it down to 1, so I'll give a few and my reasons: 1) Joker cause he was the original and the one who has done the most harm on a personal level. (Jason Todd, Barbara Gordon) 2)Bane cause he was the only one to physically defeat Batman and incapacitate him 3)Scarecrow just because of his shear evil and malevolence(oh, btw he's my favorite villain)

I'd narrow it down to 3. The Joker, Ra's Al Ghul and Bane These 4 have really got to Batman. Although the Riddler is not far behind at all after the events of Hush.
