Ok. First of all, none of us has read the story, so it's tough to judge it simply based on rumor and speculation. Second, we have no idea what the exact events leading up to this storyline are. We're gonna have to wait 'til Crisis for that. I understand that many fans won't be happy about this change - just like they weren't happy when Superman died or Batman had his back broken. Is this going to be a permanent change? My $$ is on NO. These are comics. The only constants are Bucky and Jason Todd are dead and never will come back. Everything else changes. Wait a minute.....did I say Jason Todd?? Seriously, before screaming about how bad it's going to be or threatening to start an online petition (because we all know how well those work), give the book and the writers a chance. I've been pleased with events leading up to this so far. I'm willing to give them a chance to tell another good story. Are you? Yes and No, I would be happy to wait an see how it plays out. That said I really hate the idea of Bruce being commited to Arkham. You have the Bat cave and Arkham the two opposites IMO, and Bruce belongs in Arkham as much as the Joker belongs in the cave, that's the problem I have with this potential story arc.

Bruce Wayne is Batman. DC need to stop all of this needless tinkering with Batman. It is lazy, sensationalist rubbish and is just the sort of stunt a cheap soap opera's under-talented script team would try to pull. Sorry to be harsh but it really does wind me up. This is of course just my opinion and if it has offended then I am sorry to have upset anyone.

but what's not answered is why he's committed to Arkham. everyone says Bruce Wayne is in Arkham. maybe he's undercover, maybe he's been framed again, if its something like that, then okay i can deal for the temporary time thats he's there. but if it happens that its Batman committed and the world finds out that Bruce Wayne is Batman, what happens then?

In Kia Asamiya's Batman: Child of Dreams, a deranged-fan attempts to kill Batman and place him in his collection, eventually taking over his [Batman's] place as the ruler of Gotham, albeit a violent, murderous ruler...Bruce reminds the fan that he can have the strengths and prowess of the Bat, but, he'll never be the Bat...
It's the same with Dick; sure, he could/ can put on the suit, but, he'll never be the Batman...Much in the same respect to how Bruce still thinks of the manor as his father's house...

Something like Bruce Wayne dying may work in an "Elseworlds" or out-of-continuity mini-series. In mainstream continuity and basic pop-culture Bruce Wayne has to be Batman just as Clark Kent will always be Superman. Also, after the Death of Superman arc it would only seem like a cheap stunt to make money until they can do Batman: Rebirth.
Bruce is and always will be Batman. I don't think I'd read it anymore if it changed.

To me anyone who entertains the idea of replaceing bruce as batman doesn't get batman at all. The whole legend and orgin of the character is what makes batman. Bruce makes batman, just like dick makes nightwing or robin. If they replace bruce as batman then to me its is not the same character that I hold dear to myself. I agree with the elseworld tails that fine but regular continuncy you can't touch bruce. As far as this bruce commited to arkham deal. When is DC going to stop messing around and doing the same things. We already had bruce in jail which I was not all that crazy for in the murderer storyline. He was replaced twice, once already by dick and also jean paul. Why is there a need to mess with this great character. Look at the hush storyline it was the biggest event of 2003 and that was just a plain great bat story with alot of action suspence and mystery.

You get a hero'in...(At least, you will tomorrow when I wake up...I'm not going to wait until midnight; I've got to go to bed...) I agree with you on DC messing with Batman; they shouldn't. That's probably why I didn't take to Batman Beyond as quickly as other people did...To me, it just didn't feel like the character...Elseworlds is the best place to "muck with" the character(s) and can produce some excellent stories in the process...
