What!?! That's a huge loss for DC, he's responsible for some great work.

didn't see this mentioned. At WW chicago Loeb announced that he's signed an exclusive contract with Marvel. (Voice of Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back) Yoda: Yes, a writer's strength flows from the Comics. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression, money; the dark side of the Comics are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you when you write. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Mark Waid. Black Mask: Marvel... Is the dark side stronger? Yoda: No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive. Black Mask: But how am I to know the good side from the bad? Yoda: You will know... when you are calm, at peace, passive. A writer uses the Comics for knowledge and a purpose, never for celebrity or monetary gain....

Sorry for not posting this news - I figured you'd all heard it already by the time I'd gotten back. He's going to Marvel eff 9/1/05 and is working on a 'secret project' with Joe Madureira (who is also exclusive to Marvel). Rumor in Chicago at the time was that if DC had been able to sign Loeb to another exclusive, Mad would have followed and the Marvel project would have ended up being a DC project.
Loeb's contract allows him to continue work on Supergirl for an unspecified length of time however.
In other exclusive news, Michael Turner was signed to do a 6 issue project and covers - he is NOT exclusive however. Turner said "This [the Marvel deal] goes into effect in the beginning of 2007 with covers towards the middle of next year. So, I'll still have a handful of things for DC that I'll be doing on top of that."

This dissapointed me greatly...but he'll be back in like 2 years.
Jeph is the best there is, and Marvel needs a good writer....though I've dropped almost every Marvel title.

That and, IMO, some characters that aren't blatant rip-off's of DC's characters (Punisher/ Moon Knight= Batman...Though, in the defense of the Punisher, you could look at the character from the perspective that Batman could've become him [the punisher] had he chosen the route of vengeance instead of justice...As for the defense of Moon Knight...I have no comment...)

1, 2, 3... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!Man, this is horrible. I really, really liked Loeb's Batman, and I've been anxiously awaiting a Hush sequel for some time. Now that won't happen...well, there's always the chance he'll come back. And he's done so much good work for DC, I'm glad he did as much as he did. Still,

Even my best friend who's a Marvel fan thinks that this is a "stab/ knife in the back"...Betrayl is never a good way to get on the good side of the fans...

Hey, does anyone know if Jeph Loeb will still do work on Smallville(a DC property)?

I haven't seen anything about him not being able to work on Smallville. Since it's a different medium - TV vs comics, I'd think that it would be ok. Is Smallville a DC property or a WB property? (I don't watch it, so I don't know.)

(I don't watch it, so I don't know.) That's good to hear. Since DC is owned by WB, and WB does the show with DC's characters and help, I figured it might be an issue. I believe it is technically a WB property, but WB does own DC, and couldn't do the show without DC. So maybe I shouldn't have said it's a DC property, but I think it's pretty close.

I can see how that could be a conflict, but I'm assuming that exclusive contracts like this apply only to comic related work, leaving him (and other artists/writers) to do other things, like work on movies and TV.
Maybe one of the industry guys on here could offer some additional input on this?

I see your point, thanks. Maybe one of the industry guys on here could offer some additional input on this? Yes, please *speaking to any potential volunteers* ;D

As long as Jeph Loeb continues to release new work then I'm all for him to sigh with Marvel for a while. What a great talent.

I don't care for marvel much anymore but as long as Loeb remains with the future Spirit title i'll be happy!
