I'm very excited about this book. I liked the original Omac, and I also liked the backup feature that Omac appeared in years back--the one started by Jim Starlin. I hope this remake or relaunch is good as well.

Does Batman play a big role in this series or is he a minor character?

Ok..just got done reading it.
[shadow=red,left,300]******SPOILERS******[/shadow] * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * spoilers ahead - the issue was great, thus far. It explored a lot of Sasha and her role and feelings within Checkmate. This first issue basically shows her discontentment with the "new" way checkmate is handling things...then moves into showing you what OMAC can do...which is about ANYTHING. I mean they can literally see or hear anything. They can watch Bruce at the batcomputer or listen to Wonder Woman talk to someone while flying!
it ends with Sasha tipping Bruce off about the OMAC falling into Checkmates hands and sending him Blue Beetle's broken goggles.
I cannot wait for #2!

yeah issue # 2 should be great, its also going to drive the wedge between the JLA and Batman even further down. i mean Batman created the Brother Eye satellite for the purpose of being able to see anything at any time. should be good.

What will be the ramifications of Blue Beetle erasing Checkmate's database?

Does this shop miss things on a regular basis? My thoughts - this was a great ish. Although, I'm still having trouble seeing Maxwell Lord as this manipulative mastermind - especially since I'm reading JLA Classified right now also! ;D Seeing Sasha in action again was good as well. I was collecting when she first appeared, but I'd stopped briefly during the Fugitive storyline, so I've always wondered what happened to her since then. She was always an interesting character to me and I can't wait to see what they do with her.

AWESOME issue! Everything about it was great, and the last page where Batman is holding Beetle's googles and Alfred asks what it means and Batmans responds with "It means Ted Kord is Dead Alfred" gave me goosebumps (or duck bumps).
This has really got me into the entire DCU and what fate will most of the heroes face. It has been a long time since something like that has gotten me to pick up a series involving the entire DCU. Like Identity Crisis didn't do it and all the others over the years, but this one has, and I have a pull and save option at my local comic book shop so I won't be missing an entire issue, sure the bill will be high but I think it is worth it if this is how the entire series is going to play out. Solid solid solid!

No the shop i go to is pretty good. The owner was as pissed as me. That's pretty strange then. Here's a list of the books that Diamond said were held back (and the date they'll ship, if known): ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #639 – adj. 4/27/05 ATHEIST #2 DAMN NATION #3 DAREDEVIL REDEMPTION #4 – adj. 4/27/05; 5/4/05 THE GIFT #11 HUMAN TARGET #21 – adj. 4/27/05 OCEAN #6 – adj. 5/11/05 SUPERMAN BATMAN #20 – adj. 4/27/05; 5/4/05; 6/1/05 WONDER WOMAN #215 Since it's not on the list, and yours is the only situation like this that I've seen on the net, I'm assuming that it went out everywhere and your retailer is yanking your chain. What probably happened is someone at Diamond missed it on his order and/or he didn't order more than he had subscriptions (pull lists) for. Unfortunate, but, it happens. Diamond's orders are put together by people just like you and me and they make mistakes just like anyone else. Some other retailer probably got some extra copies of Omac by mistake. What will likely happen now, since this book has sold out and is going back for a 2nd print, is he'll get the 2nd print en masse and have them in a few weeks.

ok..here's a good convo piece..who the hell deleted OMAC's files? It apparently wasn't Ted...and it couldn't have been Batman...he's blocked out...so who?
Is OMAC self aware somehow? Did Batman give it morals somehow?
Another interesting point..Huntress was recruited by Checkmate.....I wonder when she'll show up.....
and who are the white king and queen? Could batman himself be the white king?

Matt - I thought Kord erased the files. How/where did you get the impression he didn't? near the end when maxwell asked OMAC who erased the files, it stated that it was not blue beetle. Then he stated it was inconclusive who actually erased them.

Hey,/\/\att wolud it be wild if maybe Brother I deleted the files? or maybe Calculator hacked into Checkmate's system. hmmm interesting. Now why would Calculator hack into the system? I could see that he'd want to obtain the info..but not delete it necessarily.... I wonder if Batman created OMAC or if it does have an original creator, and he just took it over....

well, according to the latest DC crisis counseling, which just got posted earlier today...Batman did indeed erase the files, but then later lost control of brother I.

I'm still not sure Bruce didn't creat Brother MKI, it shows him listed as "creator" on the screen readout.
Here's semi-related question too, what was Bullock's involvement in Checkmate... I've seen that he was listed as having some part of it, but I couldn't find out much further info on that.

Just a heads up - another cover is on it's way. Also, issue #2 has sold out, just like issue #1. THE OMAC PROJECT GETS 3rd PRINTING Press Release A full three weeks before its instore-date of May 18, the Second Printing of the red-hot THE OMAC PROJECT #1 has sold out at DC Comics. Now, DC offers a new, third printing of this sold-out issue. THE OMAC PROJECT #1 Third Printing will feature a new, variant version of the original cover by Ladrönn, which pictures one of the Omacs in the center of the image. THE OMAC PROJECT #1 Third Printing is scheduled to arrive in stores on June 1. Also, THE OMAC PROJECT #2 is now sold out at DC Comics. The issue is being prepped for a new printing, which will be announced soon. "This is outstanding! I'm delighted and thrilled," says Rucka. "I think it's a testament to how much fans are connecting to the events of COUNTDOWN TO INFINITE CRISIS. Love it or hate it, this shows how well COUNTDOWN has primed the DCU for what's coming next." "Orders on the second printing of THE OMAC PROJECT exceeded our available copies, so we're happy to go back to press for a third printing," says Bob Wayne, DC's VP - Sales. "Retailers should place their orders as soon as possible, as orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis." THE OMAC PROJECT #1 Third Printing (FEB058394) is available for order now and is scheduled to arrive in stores on June 1 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S. Quantities are limited, so retailers are advised to place their orders as soon as possible. Retailers may order the issue by contacting their Diamond Customer Service Representative or DC Sales Representative, or by email at reorders@diamondcomics.com. Upcoming issues are available as follows: * THE OMAC PROJECT #3 (APR050349) is solicited in the April Previews (Volume XV #4) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on June 29. * THE OMAC PROJECT #4 (MAY050243) is solicited in the May Previews (Volume XV #5) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on July 27.

This is a bit of an "off topic" response, but as I read this thread all I can think of is that I don't remember the 80's Crisis going into multiple printings w/ varient covers and this was the biggest universe altering cross over of all time (at least up until then). Funny how things change.

Keep in mind Blocko, they had a larger print run back then. The direct market didn't exist like it does today, so there wasn't a need to limit printings to a certain number to guarantee sell through.

True. I keep forgetting how the sales numbers have changed since the 80s.

I still remember when comics were delivered to the pharmacy near my house. They arrived with all the other magazines. No Diamond boxes in those days, they were wrapped with those plastic straps and you hoped every week that the book you really wanted wasn't on the top of the pile 'cause those staps used to cut into the paper. But hey, they were only a quarter!

Sorry I didn't let you guys know about this before now. Turns out that this week's Superman #217(-$2.50) - the first non-Jim Lee issue- is an OMAC tie in and it just might have been seriously under ordered by comic stores. I was at mine around 11:15 and they only had 2 copies left - they'd ordered 50.
(Minor spoiler - highlight to read) I haven't read it yet, but while I was flipping thru it, I saw Superman getting his butt kicked by an OMAC robot.
Get it if you can!
