Batman: Dark Detective No. 1

Well, I gotta say I've been waiting for this since the '70s and I gotta say that I was kinda let down by Issue No. 1.

It may very well be that nothing would live up to my expectations but I was quite disappointed by the Rogers-Austin art, which was so inventive the first time around. Whereas the original storyline featured artwork that was pristine and precise, the artwork here seemed scratchy and a little sloppy.

From a storytelling standpoint, I'm keeping an open mind. It's the opener of a six-issue series so it's just getting its footing. The basics have been set up with Silver, Bruce and Gregory. And the Joker's up to his old tricks -- except his dialogue was a little too babbly. He seemed a little too goofy and a little less menacing.

My favorite part was actually on the cover -- with the old '70s and '80s batlogo brought out of mothballs.

I'm curious what others have to say.

One of my best reads this week. I have not yet read Marshal Roders, Terry Austin, Steve Englehart but I thought the art was great . The cover was really cool looking but my only complaint on the comic is the Jokers cleff chin.

I didn't exactly care for much of it, but i will get issue 2. I like to keep an open mind about it. Dark Detective really doesn't fit the comic...not really dark. I hope we see more two face

I think the title is homage to the fact that the original storyline was in Detective Comics.

But, yeah, this issue was a little flat. I hope we see better this Wednesday.
