this one shot is one of the most best batman stories in years, the story which basically picks up after batman year one and explores the 1st meeting of joker and batman from jokers experimenting on people up to him trying to posion gothams water supply, the story feels very good and is written just how joker stories shud be, by making no sense at the start as to why he is doing this and then by the end complete sense and it appears very clever. the art is very good with some very gruseme joker toxin results, my only and this is minor fault is that some bits are abit to light looking rather then darker. overall i would give this ***** 5 stars and say that this is a perfect book for long term fans and newcomers alike as it is a fun book and does not aliente for not knowing about current continuity.

it is a presige one-shot book. the story is about batman adjusting to being batman while at the same time gruseme smiling faced corpses are being discoved all over gotham, then every night this madman the joker goes on tv and says the name of a person who will die that night after a few of these it turns out they where just a distraction so that the joker could posion the water supply of gotham and at one point in the story even bruce wayne is targeted by the joker.

I just picked up my copy last week, and I agree it is a great book. I love the Irony that was put into one scene where Batman has the chance to kill the Joker, but as we could all predict before this book was made that he didnt. It just makes you think, he could have ended it all before it began, but then for the Batman Fans it just wouldnt be the same. Of course for anyone who loved this one, and hasnt already purchased the killing joke, go do it. It explains a theory of the Joker's beginnings. When I looked at three of the books in my collection I thought they could come in order as far as the joker goes. The parts of the killing joke explaining his past, then Batman Year one, then of course the man who laughs.
