Batman: Jekyll and Hyde #1

Batman investigates strange murders across gotham where normal people snap and murder the ones closest to them, three cases at this point. At one crime scene a medication was prescribed by a doctor at Arkham that is trying to experiment with his "Jekyll and Hyde principle". The principle is that every man is really two in conflict with each other, with this in mind he hopes to bind the two into one. Two face has been subjected to one too many electroshock therapy sessions and is now have two completely separated personalities with no chance of being cured. Two face says that they are trying to kill him and keeps bats waiting when the dark side finally says that harvey simply wished to say goodbye. Bats catches on to what is happening as part of arkham explodes.

Pychological stories always fascinate me and this one is quite psychological. I guess that is why i have always been drawn to two face. To me there has not been enough good two face stories out there until now. There's a feeling in me that believes that this is gonna be one hell of a ride to read when the story progresses. Jae lee's art is perfect for the mood of this story, he perfectly accomidates jenkin's writing. Lee's art is down and dirty gritty and dark. The story starts so morbidly and the art is so well done. Jenkins makes this a great read and any batfan should pick this up.

I agree. I always love the stories about a villain's mental state, and ecspecially two-face.

I thought this issue was o.k.I love the mystery going on in the story and I loved to see Batman doing some detective work, but my only complaint is the the art I think it is so sratchy IMO.

I think the art suits the character. Maybe if it were a character that stands in the light like Supes or even Lex, it wouldn't be good at all. BUT for Bats and 2face it just works for me. such chaotic thoughts in choatic scratches.

You know..Two-Face is hands down my favorite villian. I really wanted to like this issue...but quite honestly, I found it a bit dry.

I felt they concentrated on some of the gore of the crime scene over the richness and psychology of the characters.

...maybe thats just me, though.

I'll put my reciew for #2 in here as well. I like #2 same as I did #1. It unravels a bit more story which I think is going to become even more interesting as it rolls on. The end is definetly intruiging, and I think the next few shall be good. I love to artwork, very gorey and ugly(In a good way).
One problem I had with this one was the conversation Bruce has with Alfred. Alfred accuses bruce of not even knowing his parents, and using them as an excuse for Batman. I found that a bit off character for Alfred on the writers spot. Alfred to me, and of course to many others is Bruce's mentor, and goes along with Bruce and Batman no matter what, but this seemed a bit judgemental and mean.

I've liked this series so far. I'm a very hard critic but I've found this to be a compelling story in terms of both writing and art. The dialogue is especially good, tho I agree with the previous post that the Alfred comments seemed a little out of character.

Still and all, I dig it so far. Very adult.

Yea i'm really enjoying this. The comic was great and is leading into a good story. Tho the alfred comment is deffinately correct.

Everyone else has said it as well as I could, but I will make a couple of comments:

I thought the Alfred comments were really odd also. As someone who is just getting back into Comics, it didn't seem to fit and if I were new entirely, I would really be put off by Alfred.

I think the art is very appropriate for the story.
