-- Interesting embellishment of the Scarecrow's origin. The basic disgruntled professor motivation is still central to the character but there are interesting new layers, with the gothic abuse angle.
-- Loved the artwork. A lot. The minimalism is reminiscent of Mazzucchelli. It's not copycat by any means, though. The artist has a distinct, colorful style that is well-suited to the story.
-- Sharp dialogue though the story is a little choppy. Perhaps the best part is the relationship between Batman and Robin. Very well handled. I also liked the bit at Lamar's apartment.
-- I eagerly await Part 2.

I picked this one up the day it came out and just got around to reading it yesterday.
I enjoy it and basically shared the same thoughts as Batdan.
The dialogue was very choppy and I actually laughed out loud once when Batman said "doobie". Keep in mind, it wasn't meant to be funny.
In this version, Jonathan Crane's reasoning for becoming The Scarecrow have a lot in common with Bruce's reasoning for becoming Batman.
All in all though, I like the story and really look forward to see how they wrap it up.
One complaint I have is that it is a tad pricy at $5.99.

Yeah, the doobie line was kind of funny. Though I did think it was intentionally so.

i really thought this wasnt a good book, the art is ok not great you would have expected a darker look for a scarecrow story espically this one. the story is a horrible mess it skips so fast from one bit to anotehr and dosnt stop to even help you understand the past peices are very nicely done but the rest of the story is not right. i cant say i really enjoyed this book the way scarecrow is seems wrong and the art dosnt help. this book seems lifeless and dosnt really make it as a scarecrow story. When i read this i wished they had just changed his orgin and took the scarecrow from begins, as the movie comic is great for a good scarecrow and even tohugh you willl have seen the movie much better then this.

I enjoyed it very much. I never knew he had such a creepy grandmother (scarecrow that is).
