On the occasion of my 1,000th post, I wanted to start a thread paying homage to my favorite title, "Gotham Central."
In the past year since I was registered on the boards (a year ago next week), I've taken the time to go back and read many of the key batstories that I missed when I stopped reading comics regularly in the early '90s.
What I've found is that Gotham Central is the most enjoyable read. If you don't read it, do yourself a favor: The series is a worthy successor to the world created in Batman: Year One -- adult, gritty and minimalist. It's outstanding.

Congratulations on your 1000th post! I havent read Gotham Central for a while now, but I did used to read and it was the best Batman comic out, even though he was rarely in it. Glad to hear a new fan is out there. Hopefully I can go back and catch up when I get some free time (and money).

Gotham Central is fantastic and one of the best books out there. also if you are a fan if this title you have to read the GCPD mini-series from a few years ago, which is great also. and how each character feels about Batman is great to see as well. you have Romy Chandler hating Batman and blaming him for Patton's death and you have Allen and Montoya who understand the need for him. and the partnering is great too. Marcus Driver and Josie MacDonald are great together. and Maggie Sawyer was a fantastic addition to the book, though it is a shame we can't have Bullock, but his downfall arc was great.

I also like how it meshes the best parts of my favorite cop shows, like Homicide and Hill Street and NYPD.
I just wish there were a more Batmancentric title out there that followed the same style, the same minimalist approach. His regular titles are too superheroish for my tastes on a regular basis.

Catwoman. and early in Brubaker's run especially, as that was when he was writing both. arcs like "relentless" and "crooked little town" are phenomenal and have that same style, and "crooked little town" features the GCPD quite a bit. Catwoman now is still fantastic with Pfiefer writing it, but what you're looking for are those two arcs in particular.

Yeah I've read some of that Catwoman and I agree it's excellent.
I would just love a Batman-focused series done the same way.
