I wasn't around for the first crisis, and I was really into Spider-Man until Batman made his comeback, so I was wondering: What were the affects of the Crisis on Infinite Earths? I've heard some, but if anyone could give me a list of what happened, I would really appreciate that.

Here we go. Crisis on Infinite Earths completely rebooted the DC Universe in 1985. It changed the history of every character at least somewhat, and changed a lot of the characters themselves. For example, it made Batman the dark badass he is today. He had been somewhat dark since 1970, but after COIE, DC took Frank Miller's characterization from The Dark Knight Returns and applyed it to the new Batman, making him the truly dark character we now know and love. A new origin and continuity was made for him, starting with Year One. This was done to every character to a certain extent, mostly for the better, IMO. Also, DC's obsession with alternate Earths - meaning the way they had tons of different realities, making the DC Universe VERY complicated and cluttered - ended with COIE, when all the Earths in the DC Universe were merged into one, making the current DC Universe, which is the basic plot of COIE.

So the crisis made Batman into the badass we all know and love today. Schumacher should've been paying attention. What happened with other characters and who did anyone die?

Let's see: I know that Flash(Barry Allen) and the Pre-Crisis Supergirl bit the dust( ;D), and all the characters that weren't incorporated into this new DC Universe ceased to exist(poof). A few multiverse characters survived, however: Golden Age Superman(the original Superman from the 30's, 40's, and 50's), his wife, the Golden Age Lois Lane, Alexander Luthor, the son of a good Lex from a world where our good guys were bad and our bad guys were good, and Superboy Prime, a version of a young Clark Kent who gained superpowers in a reality where there were NO other superheroes, survived in a pocket dimension, and have returned in Infinite Crisis. Pretty much the only character who I prefer the Pre-Crisis version of, is Superman. I have come to believe that the Superman from the 70's is the best version of the character in the history of the comics. I feel that the modern Supes is way to much of a sissy, and mopes around too much, whereas his "Bronze Age" counterpart truly lived up to his name, and was the ultimate version of the character in the comics, IMO(not that I'm a huge Superman fan, but I can appreciate him when he's done right). Some things have remained nearly the same since the Crisis, such as the Justice League (as far as I know), at least their history. An example of a character who underwent a complete metamorphosis for his Post-Crisis version, is Lex Luthor. While the Pre-Crisis Lex was a mad scientist, not rich, and made enemies with Clark/Superboy as a kid, the Post-Crisis version is a corrupt businessman, apparently killed his parents for insurance money, built his own corporation from the ground up, and hates Superman for different reasons altogether, as far as I can tell. The two versions are so different, and they are also apparently both running around right now in the DC Universe in Infinite Crisis(unless the second Lex isn't the Pre-Crisis version, but I'm almost certain he is). Anyway, there are some more examples of how DC characters changed after the Crisis.

Another thanks HUSH. Now we have to wait to see how this new crisis will affect our beloved heroes, and see who will survive and who will perish(hopefully not you-know-who )
