Since I saw an official Batman Confidential discussion thread but not one for Detective Comics, I thought I'd go ahead and start one up. If there is one and the searches just weren't finding it for me, let me know Anyway, Detective Comics #829 came out today, part 1 of two in the story arc The Siege. The cover for the issue makes a lot more sense now after reading the story, and it seem the next part will be very interesting. It does discuss terrorism, but what Batman says to the guy, Vox, was great.

I read bits of it at the comic book store the other day. It's a good issue but it seems more like something for the main Bat-book of the month. It just feels more like a story for "Batman" rather than "Detective". It was great nonetheless. Generally I find Robin is used uselessy most of the time, either that or the writer makes him an obnoxious @$$ like Jason Todd was back in the day. But I actually liked Robin being involved for once.

I agree with you about Robin. I like it when Robin contributes to the story and isn't just along for a ride. In the comic with Harvest, Robin just seemed to be there; in this story, he does play a role in it and it isn't just getting Batman caught...yet ;D

Yeah. Apart from the recent storylines what are some of your favorite story arcs in the history of the book? Mine would be Dark Detective & Year Two

Since I've only been into comics, mainly Batman, for the past year, I haven't read many stories outside of the most recent stories. Face th Face is the story that got me involved, but since then I've checked out Wargames, No Man's Land, Death in the Family, and the first two volumes of The Batman Chronicles. I'd say I've enjoyed all of them so far, but the ones I've reread the most are the recent ones by Paul Dini since I also loved the Animated Series so much. There are many others (Hush for example) that I still really want to check out.

Yeah. Apart from the recent storylines what are some of your favorite story arcs in the history of the book? Mine would be Dark Detective & Year Two Dark Detective was a mini series, not an arc of Detective Comics. it follows a collection in Detective, "Strange Apparitions". as for some of my favorite Detective arcs, basically the entire run of Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle. also "Evolution" was quite good as well. as was "Unknowing". and Mike Barr and Chuck Dixon had decent runs on the book as well.

Dark Detective was the name of the arc by Steve Engleheart back in the mid 70's. Although it didn't have that name origionally it was named Dark Detective as Engleheart has proven on his website. The Dark Detective you're refering to is the sequal which came out a year or two ago as a mini-series. Click this Dark Detective

I have all the issues, thank you very much that & they're listed on the site. The origional arc was infact called "strange apparitions", but it's part of a larger arc in mind by Englehart that he calls Dark Detective which is incredibly obvious on the site if you actually read it. I should have specified in my first post that I meant Dark Detective Part 1. That's what most people think of when refering to Dark Detective.

Finished #830 awhile ago, and thought it was a good conclusion to Vox. I really thought the picture of the Wayne building showing the locations of Bruce, Vox, and Robin was very well done. The only thing that may have bugged me a bit from the first one was Bruce talking Robin through removing the explosive, but I guess it was weird.

I really enjoyed 829 & 830 Titled Siege,
I always like a story where you get to see more of Bruce Wayne than Batman, don't get me wrong, seeing Batman is always awesome, but a great Bruce Wayne story is always a treat. And I am not the biggest Tim Drake Robin fan, but this storyline he was used really well.
Some of my favorite Detective Comics are the ones drawn by Norm Breyfogle.... His artwork alone made the story that much better for me

I don't mind Tim Drake Robin. Out of the three, I like him the best most likely with how much like Batman he is. However, from the Nightwing stories I've read (the few that is) he's grown up to be a lot like Batman as well, but he still has his few Grayson moments.

My favorite Robin was definately Tim. When Greyson became Nightwing, & Jason died I thought Robin would'nt appear again. Only to find a new one 2 issues later who I hated at first. I like Drake alot now. He's alot like Bruce

sorry Matt, sorry Arkham. apologies to everyone else as well. the discussion did get alittle out of hand. now back to Batman. i enjoyed # 831, and i'm very excited about the return of the Terrible Trio in 832. Paul Dini once again brings back the Silver Age. should be great.

The Terrible Trio's return in 832 wasn't too bad. Batman got bitten up a bit, but the ending didn't look good for the man who was after the trio. Be sure to check it out and Dini returns for the next issue.

Wow I'm pretty recent too! But I started probably three years ago! And the reason I don't have many recent comics is because my comic book store is an antique store and so only has old ones!

I'd assume it's about the stories of Zatanna which comes out this month and the next. I can't remember all the issues between except for the terrorist attack on Wayne tower. And, All Star Batman, don't count on me sending that TPB as a birthday gift, I may want it for myself

Yes, there were two New Ventriloquist stories: her introduction and then the Harley Quinn issue.

I finished #833 today with Zatanna on the cover. I thought it would be an alright comic, but it turned out to be great! I didn't see what was going to happen next coming and loved it. However, now that I think about it, there was one clue, but the clue was right before the surprise so I don't feel too bad. I highly recommend this issue!!
