[glow=red,2,300][/glow] As I was looking through my local comic book store's batman comics (as always) the owner called me! He knew I really only liked Batman comics and so he showed me "Batman:Year One, Part One"! As i looked at it I fell in love and bought it at once! As soon as I was at home, I read it! It was great, art and writing! I can't wait to get Part Two (he has all of them!!!!)! Have you read this and if so what do you think of it! I suggest this if you havn't, even if you just get the collected edition/graphic novel. Another great job Frank!!!!

Year one is a good origin story. I always recommend this to anyone who wants to read some good Batman stories. I call this story "good" and not "great" because there are somethings in here I totally dislike and some things I wish were a bit different, such as too much emphasis on Gordon and Frank making Selina a prostitute. wtf?!

I bought a hardcover edition of Batman: Year One that has all the issues. I didn't mind the Gordon story all that bad because it shows how well Gordon and Batman get along because they have similar dark instances in their pasts. As for Selina, I don't really have much of an opinion on it for it isn't all that central to the story (of what I remember anyway). I also always recommend this one as a good origin story.

I liked the dark gritty story telling of year one, but I too didn't like the Selina story. I preferred the story given to her in The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Catwoman When in Rome trilogy

Well the prostitute thing wasn't my main concern with Selina, my main was that she was Black!

No I guess not! But in my defence this is not a thread about race it's about Batman:Year One. It's just that the subjet was brought up (but it's true Selina Kyle's white!). But okay forget that was even said!

By the way, what I want to know is: exactly how many year ones are there? They have like 500 (exageration) year one's for Batman, one for Batgirl, one for almost every Bat-character! Can't they come up with a new title or something? But still, all year ones are tremendous stories/comics in my opinion though.

I really liked the focus in Year One on Gordon as well as Batman. I know it really gave me the best understanding out of any Batman story of why Gordon fights on Batman's side. I liked not only that Gordon was a troubled, understandable character, but also the way he gradually realized the need for Batman and became a loyal ally. It makes sense that, being an honest cop, he wouldn't take to a vigilante quickly. I also wasn't so crazy about Catwoman's new origin, but it's a small issue since she didn't play too large a role in the story and her origin was quickly revised. And if you want to go by Long Halloween and Dark Victory, Catwoman's technically Italian, as I recall. I'm sure those stories are in continuity, so that may be her official ancestry, unless somebody retconned it.
