Listen, I saw this same damn thing yesterday and I'm going to write exactly what I wrote at Newsarama: BULL$#!+ Unless there's a proper source and not just a rumor by a guy who flunked grade school, let me know.

I feel like an butt now. This is so embarrrasing. Dude, it wasn't toward you. With the quote bracket, I didn't realize you were translating from another site. I am deeply sorry, it was nothing against you. I am really sorry. Please forgive me. I'm kicking myself right now.

I wouldnt put it past the comapmy to consider it or try such a thing for a gimick or extended storyline. If done really well and not as a blatent empty gimick it could be entertaining enough to keep reading. We could and would all survive it. If they were foolish enough to make it genuine and perminant, no matter how well it was done, I would almost certainly stop reading 99.9%. Regardless of how well anything continued on without Bruce. I know better than to think they would be capable of writing anything well enough to keep me engaged for much at all afterwards.

To me, Bruce Wayne IS Batman. It won't matter who would be under the cowl, whether it be Dick, Tim, Jason, or Damian, it wouldn't be Batman. Bruce has the motivation, the drive to stop crime. Because Batman is the true persona of Bruce, and Bruce Wayne is the real mask.
Another rumor I heard was that they would relaunch Batman with a new #1. Now that's a bad idea there. A nearly 70 year run and over 600 issues, and they want to relaunch it? I mean, they didn't renumber it after the first crisis with Year One.

Agreed. Relaunching it would be the single most incredibly and unnecessarily dumbest thing ever. Thats something that would have me actually stop buying just out of protest to it's stupidity. Bruce Wayne's death is something that I suppose is *inevitable, even in comic time (or at least something to be explored now and then). His death would still be a long way off imo. If it were ever to actually occur, it would require a huge amount of commitment, preparation and build up over literally years.

The relaunch doesn't sound good at all for me; even if they do start over with another Batman, why need start at #1 (All Star Batman mentioned Year One which is a good example). As for a story about Batman being killed and one of the Robin's taking over, and what the Joker's reaction would be, would be an interesting story to explore parts of which we got an idea from when Bane broke Bruce's back and Azrael then Dick Grayson took over. However, I wouldn't want Bruce Wayne out of the picture anytime soon (whether Final Crisis or whatever) for all the reasons you all have mentioned above. Hopefully they don't get too stupid over at DC... ...what if they launched another Batman series where the death of Bruce Wayne is explored and how the chaos in the DCU (yes, there would be chaos ) follows from that?

He's not dying. It's just a rumor, just like the one I heard about Confidential being cancelled. Don't believe this until official word from DC, or Newsarama, whichever you follow. Hopefully they don't get too stupid over at DC... Yeah, or they'll be like Marvel and start their own Civil War and have their most popular character unmask himself, turn a good character into a jerk, and kill off a legend. Yeah, I went there. Marvel sucks now, especially with what they're doing to Spidey. See, that's the kind of thing that will make people think DC is copying Marvel with the death of Captain America, which would be what they would be doing, and having something like the Fallen Son issues would only further that.

I don't follow anything from Marvel, but I knew Captain America was dead and not much after that except for new designs for his new costume.

THINGS TO DO IN GOTHAM WHEN YOU'RE DEAD
Last week's rumour about Batman kicking the Batbucket to be replaced by a sidekick is kicking up steam. As Valerie D'Orazio picks up on, the original plan was for all the main DC icons to die and be elevated to the status of New Gods as part of the Fifth World, their sidekicks filling the roles they left behind.
However, that plan was abandoned internally at DC and reduced to a Bat-storyline by Grant Morrison. So look for Bruce Wayne New God to go head-to-head with Darkseid in "Final Crisis."
This could be worse than killing him.

There was one image from Batman #666 that comes to mind but I hope this isn't the case; also, looking at the image announcing Final Crisis does imply some one dies but not Batman!?

Issue 666 isn't incontinuity. It's just a possible future, just like what JMS did in Amazing Spider-Man 500.

Amazing Spider-Man 500??? I don't read Marvel!!! I get that, I was just mentioning that image with Damian doing the "Nooooo!" over Batman's body. And I'd be disappointed if 666 was in continuity since I don't like that "bright" future but the issue was still good.

*gasp* They couldn't possibly have Grant running around inside a giant hampster wheel to power the DC offices, could they?
I don't have a problem with an extended run, but going past 2008 would be rediculous. But I've heard Grant's gonna kill him, & they'll restart at #1 again. I'm completely against it, but It'll be interesting.

It's the part where they say beyond that's making me think. Are you getting it now?

Our latest rumor...
BAT PROMOTION
The last two LITG columns... this one and this one, have covered the death of Bruce Wayne, his ascendancy as a Fifth World New God, and his replacement here on Earth.
I can now tell you that the new Batman will be designed by Alex Ross and will see Jason Todd under the cowl.
Poor Dick Grayson. Don't you hate it when someone junior to you is promoted above your head?
This is all part of a cross-continuity, longform story by Grant Morrison and in terms of structure bears similarity to his “New X-Men,” but on a far wider scale. It sounds rather good.
Now this really would be copying Cap's death. The images of the new Cap show him using guns and knives, and Jason pretty much does that. Damn it DC, don't be like Marvel. Don't ruin your characters just to increase sales!

Wow, all this news makes me feel bad. Not only the rumors of his death but also this whole Jason Todd character. (Didn't fans what him killed for a reason? I haven't minded him in Countdown, but as Batman? Never.)

Oh and Dead Batman/Todd Batman/God Bruce Wayne? So not happening. You can still expect a status-challenging new scenario, still expect Alex Ross covers and designs, still expect some intricately complex yet instantly entertaining Morrisonia, just, expect something else. Did Internet reaction affect this? Not one jot it seems. All decisions are taking place at a much higher level, and Warner Bros. have made their feelings known. WB saved ours and Batman's @$$es. At least all this talk of Batman dying will end. Viva la murcielago!
