The gang over at Mattel took a few moments to answer LOG's questions about their San Diego con appearance....plus they've provided us with images of the clear Man-Bat and the Man-Bat packaging! We had this to post on Monday, but I was out sick..so I'm a little late...but here ya go! We do want to clear something up....the Dc Super Heroes Man-Bat will NOT be available at retail...only at the cons. You can get more Mattel answers and a full convention schedule rundown HERE******************************** LOG: Who from Mattel will be available for figure autographs at the con? Will the Four Horsemen be in attendance? Mattel:The Four horsemen as well as Mattel toy and package designers will be signing at the Mattel booth. The exact times will be announced soon. LOG: Is Mattel utilizing the "raffle" system again for selling their con exclusives this year? Are there any limits on how many can be purchased?Mattel: We will not be having a raffle system this year. However, you will be limited to one Man-Bat per day. (badges will be stamped) Clear Man-Bat Chase FigureLOG: What panels and topics will be discussed at the con? Mattel: Mattel will host two Fan Panels. On Friday at 11:30 in room 10 we will host a fan Q &A and presentation on our DC/Warner Bros. toy lines. On Saturday at 2:30 in room 10 we will host a Master of the Universe panel and screen Episode 35 "The Power of Grayskull". This will be followed by a MOTU Q & A with some surprise guests. LOG: Can the fans look forward to any 'The Dark Knight' movie toy previews? Mattel: There will be Dark Knight product at the booth but we won’t be able to show everything. LOG: Will we see any new toy designs based on the expanded DC license that Mattel just got? Mattel: Yes we will be revealing our first wave of figures from the expanded license. These will be revealed at our booth and during our fan panel…many surprise to be revealed then. LOG: Any hints on the surprises that are in-store? Mattel: Yes. There will be lots of them. Its an all-new booth this year and we have some amazing activities and events to reveal. Thanks to the guys at Mattel for taking a moment to answer our questions. Check out the silhouette below for the first figure from their expanded Dc Comics toyline!

Of course! I wish I knew there was no raffle this year a few weeks ago. The raffel was the reason we decided to go to Disney World instead of SC as the Mattel exclusive was the only reason I was going to go and with the raffle system there was no guarantee so we decided againts it. Man I can't buy a break!

I'll believe it when i DON'T see it. I think the brown ManBat will be released. Put the panic in people so you sell the Con Figure. I think that Mattel wants to sell all the figures they can at Comic Con, because in the past they got stuck with figures and don't want to send them to Tuesday Morning.

Yeah, isnt the brown manbat on the back of the new cards. Man, start adding almost criminal false advertising to the list of mattel grievences. Wow, relax man. Its a toy. And thats coming from ME. lol. More than likely its a case of the card being printed prior to the decision not to go retail being made. I highly doubt anyone was trying to fool you.

Someone told me that last year at CC. The "Relax, it's just a toy" comment. For us, maybe. But, i found it very condescending when it was a hasbro, or Mattel person telling me that. Considering they make their living at convincing us its more than just toys. Yeah, isnt the brown manbat on the back of the new cards. Perhaps; but, I was thinking too much focus on the hand; as in ring. Parallax, maybe? [glow=red,2,300][/glow]That has to be Martian Manhunter

I was more joking on the "almost criminal false advertising" comment earlier. But its not like that havent done this to us before. The JLU Ray/Shayera 3pack is a very recent example. For me though the whole manbat thing doesnt matter. I dont collect DCSH. And thanks to JLU, even with the master license, they will have to make a really random character in the line for me to get it.

[glow=red,2,300][/glow]That has to be Martian Manhunter i originally though martian manhunter, but it really could be anyone witha high collared cape, such as Red Tornado (a very good possibility, being that he has a new role in the comics) or Dr. Fate. also, i'm still dying to see the mid-transformation Man-Bat, hopefully its not that lava/clear colored version pictured above in the package, and its similiar to the chase transforming Ghost Rider from Marvel Legends with there actually being some of Kirk Langstrom's face and head.

No DCSH Man-bat at retail? I am so close to saying to hell with mattel and not even bothering wasting the gas looking for their product anymore! At least DC Direct has their figures out when promised (99% of the time) and I know that oppinons differ on this, but I feel better quality. I have grown so tired of looking for the new DC Superfriends line that I am about to get sick, at least during this search I did run on to the new DCSH line. Anyway, there are a lot of us that would love to have these "con-exclusive" figures but can NO WAY get to the place at the time to get them and WILL NOT succumb to some ebay pirate at 10 times the price paid. Keep this kind of crap up mattel and this is one loyal, LONG TIME (say 35+ years) customer you can wave good bye to forever, on any line any where, grandkids, great grandkids, etc.....

Thanks for posting pics and giving us the scoop Matt!
I was planning to go to Comic Con this year, but it just didn't work out. The Man Bat exclusive would have been nice to bring home too!

This is not the first time Mattel has advertised a figure on a card pack but didn't release it. A regular size Cyborg Superman was advertised on the side of DCSH's packages, but Cyborg Superman was never released. A large Cyborg Superman was released at Toy's R Us, though.
Like many companies, Mattel wants to make money, and that's it. Instead of rushing into something, they need to take time and plan their advertisements and releases.
Plan a wave of figures, produce the figures, advertise the figures, ship the figures, sell the figures. Don't plan them, advertise them, change your plans, ship them, forget them and leave fans scratching their heads.
Also, don't produce several figures off of the same sculpt. I don't even care that a Two-Face figure was made because it's the same sculpt as Clark Kent. The same goes for Cassie Cane Batgirl and Barbara Gordon Batgirl, The blue and red Supergirl and the white and red Supergirl, the 40 different Supermen and Batmen, Camo Bane and Lava Doomsday. You are selling the same figure over and over, making more money instead of making quality figures. If Marvel Legends released the same figures over and over, do you think they would have gained the popularity they did?
The whole Batman Begins line and Superman Returns line were the same few figures with new colors/weapons/action features. The same think will happen with The Dark Knight, which is why I'm not looking forward to that. I don't want Bruce Wayne, Ra's Al Ghul and Henry Ducard figures that all look the same. Next year, we will have a Joker head on Batman's body. Sure, some will sell, but not a lot, and the line will fade faster than a cheap shirt in hot water.
I fear the DCSH line will fail soon, even with the addition of more DC characters. Who wants a Martian Manhunter with Superman's body? Every store near me that did sell them has stopped. I can't find The Batman figures, I can't find DCSH. Mattel needs to gain the trust of retailers and fans back in a big way or wrap it up and let someone else give it a try.

I think the shadow figure might be JSA member Alan Scott. That would be awesome!

Im actually ok with Mattel reusing body parts. It helps save money and helps to get more characters out there. Its works miraculously well for the JLU line. Im a person that just wants the character, not picky about if its a unique sculpt or not.

I think the figure is Martian Manhunter or...... Super Fonzie! Would'nt that be hilarious. The first non Batman & non Superman figure we get, even after Mattel has the complete DC licence, is a mattel created character. Although, now I really wanna know what "Super Fonzie" looks like.

I don't think the figure is Martian Manhunter. I'm leaning toward Red Tornado.
