New detials and sneak peek at the upcoming animted DVD The New York Times today showed the first image from the upcoming direct to DVD adaptation of Darwyn Cooke's The New Frontier. From the article: One of the biggest challenges was paring down the story from just under 400 pages into a 70-minute film. The comic book version has a sprawling cast and multiple subplots, from a nearly 40-page sequence that depicts the fate of the Losers, a squad of soldiers from DC’s war comics, to following Hal Jordan’s path from reluctant fighter pilot in Korea to his discovery of the power ring that will turn him into Green Lantern. In between, Wonder Woman and Superman debate their own involvement in Southeast Asia; the Martian Manhunter arrives on Earth; and John Henry rises in Tennessee to combat the Ku Klux Klan. But the process was not without its bumps. In the first three drafts, neither Wonder Woman nor Lois Lane, both significant in the comic, was in the film. “You have to pick your battles,” Mr. Cooke said. “I had to give up a lot of things that would make me weep, not because they need to be in the film but because I wanted to see them animated. But Lois and Wonder Woman had to be in.” The 70 minute film is due for release in February of 2008, and will be previewed this coming week at the San Diego Comic-Con. The faces on the women, look kinda like the Teen Titans cartoon. Very anime, with a mix of Cooke's 40esque style and Timm's colors. I love it! More Please!!!

NEW FRONTIER DVD VOICE CASTING REVEALED
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Tom Bondurant
Following the screening of Superman Doomsday on THursday night at the San Diego Comic-Con, the panelists revealed behind-the-scenes information from the directors and screenwriter. They then showed a brief promotional piece for Spring 2008's Justice League: The New Frontier. Among other things, it confirmed the main cast: David Boreanaz as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Kyle MacLachlan as Superman, Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman, Neil Patrick Harris as the Flash, and Jeremy Sisto as Batman.

I'll wait til they show it on CN. I think it's gonna suck! Care to elaborate on that? Well, I'm not a fan of the character design that was released for Wonder Woman, very retro, plus I don't like the voice line-up. I understand that it's supposed to be an early story, almost a prequel, but I just can't see(hear?) anyone but Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman

The story and characters are no-way related to thier Timm verse counter parts, and its a great story, but hey if you dont want to watch it just because they characters look retro(even if the story is set in the late 50's) and the voices seem off, your missing out on a potential great.

Conroy will always be the definitive voice of Batman for most of us (certainly me). But he wasnt the first and he wont be the last. There will always be good and bad cartoons (Batman and non) and better and worse voice actors... literally and subjectively. Fortunately, at least IMO, New Frontier appears certainly to be something above average and potentially one of the greats! Like it or not, things change. Got to just be happy that not only are our favorite characters continuing to get such exposure and treatment, but that those involved are now taking deliberate steps to give those characters dignity and relevance. They are taking them seriously and infusing true artistic and personal passion into these projects again and taking fan's passions to heart as well in creating them. To each their own. Everyone has and is entitled to different tastes. Dont care for New Frontier? hopfully something else will appeal to you? If not, then likely in time there will be. The only constant is change. Thats something we all simply have to accept.

Yeah, it does look good, and that preview is great Batlaw, thanks.
I wouldn't be worried about the voice casting either. I can sit here and say with confidence that all but a few of the members of LoG would love to have Kevin Conroy as the voice for Batman. but that doesn't mean we should dismiss it automatically! That's like saying: "I'm not getting Batman Begins because Kevin Conroy doesn't play Batman", or "I'm not watching The Dark Knight because the Joker's going to be in it".
