I know I am! I've been really impressed with this book. Its actually the only Batman title I read on a monthly basis.

I picked both up from my local comic book store today, but I haven’t had a chance to read them yet.

Is the Jam Packed book an adaptation of actual episodes of the book, or is it a reprint of the first few issues of the monthly? Either way I'll probably get it, just curious

[shadow=green,left,300]It was fun seeing the next step in Bane's lore...to see what happened after he was captured.
A very classic story, IMO.[/shadow]

Jeff's covers on this ROCK!!!!! [shadow=green,left,300]Jeff does amazing pencils, but lets not forget to give props to the great Dave McCaig for his color work on the covers...he really brings them to life! ...and of course Bill Matheny, whose writing has really juiced up in the past few issues (pardon the pun)....his style blends perfectly with Chris's art![/shadow]

I haven't been a big fan of the comics series so far. I do think this issue was the best to date but on the whole, I think the writing on the TV series has been sharper.

[shadow=green,left,300]One thing that has struck me in particular about the past few issues is how the storytelling has evolved...I truly feel like I'm reading an episode of the series. It moves and feels like an extention of the show, which is exactly how I like to think of the book!
They've done a great job of continuing Alfred's persona from the show...he gets a little more time to shine it seems in the book. All of the characterization, for that matter, is very strong and true to the series.
Chris's pencils jump right out at me....half of the frames feel like animation cels. He's got Matsuda's style down pat....and he's already begun, it seems, to blend that with his own experience in doing batman to take some chances with positioning...its got to be hard to pencil a character off of a model sheet, not knowing how they'd look or move in every angle and situation..I think Chris has really taken all the right liberties here.
what do you guys think??[/shadow]

I must admit, I'm woefully behind on my comic reading - I'm about 3 weeks behind right now, with no end in sight. I can say that The Batman is one of the few books that I will share with my kids. We were at the local mall, waiting for my wife to get her hair done - so that left me with the baby and the 4 other kids for at least 1/2 hour if not more - depending on what she did to it this time! ;D We walked around the mall - that took all of 15 minutes and the kids were already driving me nuts! Right about then, we passed the bookstore and lo! glowing in the bright fluorescent glow, there was a friendly neighborhood spinner rack inside! Into the store I guided them, pointing them to the tower of comics. Quickly I grabbed copies of The Batman, Powerpuff Girls, Titans Go and some kiddie Spiderman book. I rushed to the counter to pay, as the baby started screaming (since the stroller stopped, he figured he could start...), paid the woman - probably too much in my hurry to get out of the store before the kids tore down the magazine shelf. Bag in hand, urging the kids to follow, I found a bench for them all to sit on and passed out the books. Which one did they fight over? The Batman. I should have just purchased 4 copies of The Batman and been done with it. Second most popular? Titans Go. Nobody wanted to read Spidey. That one ended up being Dad's. Lucky me. Thanks to Chris and Bill for making this a book that both my kids and I can enjoy together. Now if only DC would put out some posters of the cover art....

I also buy these for my son to read. He was especially glad to get this issue so shortly after getting the Bane action figure.
I agree that it's gotten better than the first couple of issues. I hope it continues to improve.

Seeing that his body has become dependent on Venom to survive is an interesting revelation. My fav scene was where Alfred and Bruce were in the cave, and Alfred said, essentially, the man makes the suit, not the other way around. A very true statement, IMO, as far as Batman is concerned. My fav panel (in this issue anyway ;D) was near the end where we saw Bane's transformation from bulked up to normal size, after Batman yanked out the 'feeding tube' for the Venom. I really love Chris' art on this book. Did I mention, it's the ONLY Batman book that I read on a monthly basis? Thanks again to the creative team involved. You're doing an excellent job!!

It's also the only monthly Batman book I read, other than the Superman-Batman title. I barely even recognize the character of Batman in the regular books anymore, he's an antisocial, brutal creep. The book based on the cartoon is just fun, and that's why I really like it

Like I said before, I like the fact that I can read it and enjoy the book AND I can share it with my kids and they enjoy it also. There really aren't many books on the rack right now that I can say that about. (I forgot about Superman/Batman - I think of that as World's Finest. That is more of a book for Dad though, than for the kids.)

[shadow=green,left,300]I'm in the same boat as you guys. I sometimes buy other titles, but that fluctuates, depending on what's going on...the only title I ALWAYS pick up is Batman Strikes.[/shadow]
