I've known about this for about a week, but didn't feel like it was OK to share until something had been announced. But now I see that the news has broken over on Comic Book Resources, there's no reason to hold back. The last issue of The Batman Strikes will be #50.
As recently as the New York Comic Con, the best word from the DC editors was that The Batman Strikes would likely run until the launch of a comic book tie-in for the new Batman: Brave and the Bold animated TV series. There was even the possibility of Strikes running past the time the new TV show started, as there has in the past often been a lag between the premiere of a DC-based animated TV show and the launch of it's respective comic tie-in.
But instead the decision came down from on high that the book would finish with issue #50, which is a surprise since there were scripts in various stages of development that would have taken the series significantly past that number, but it's a done deal now.
As much as I'd love to encourage everyone to mount some sort of write-in campaign to save or extend the comic series, I'm afraid I have to advise you all not to bother. This decision is set in stone and DC is just wanting to close out this version of the character and focus on the version from the impending new series as well as the other new youth-targeted titles (like Superfriends and Tiny Titans) that DC is pushing.
I'd love to everyone's thoughts on the final issues as they come out. We'll hopefully be able to go out with our strongest issues yet. I know that #50 will feature a Halloween story that was planned before it was known that #50 would be the final issue. It should be fun...
Heck, it's all been fun.

This is realy sad. First they take away "The Batman," and then when you think "hey I still have "The Batman Strikes" they take that away too. And for what "The Brave and Bold" That show will be a joke and take away the seriousness atmosphere that theyre trying to create with The Dark Knight.

You know, I'm not excited yet about Brave and the Bold, but I'm reserving judgement until we see more than one piece of promotional art. I think there's room for a wide variety of spins on the source material, and it's really a question of how well it's done. So for now, I'm trying to steer clear of pre-judging that show.
When The Batman started, there was a lot of negativity surrounding it mainly because it had the misfortune of being directly compared with the previous animated incarnation of Batman, which was one of the most successful series in the history of television animation.

Chris isn't the only STRIKES creator bummed about this. I am, too.
On the upside for me, two of the final issues will be my scripts: #46, which hits in June, and #48 in October. Chris' artwork for #46 already is in and it's great. I can't say anything specific about issue #48 until the solicitation comes out, but believe me it's going to blow all of you away.

Well, we all knew this was coming from the moment the show was cancelled.
We here at LOG have been overjoyed and honored to play host to the creators and artists on this title since its inception back in 2004. Its been a fantastic run. We look forward to spotlighting Strikes until its untimely demise with issue #50.
A huge thanks to Chris Jones, Bill Matheny, Russell Lissau, Jai Nitz, Scott Beatty, Sanford Greene, Jeff Matsuda and Nachi Castro for all of your hard work on this book!
Thanks for everything guys.

It's been a pleasure.
I just ask everyone to remember that Batman will go on, both in comics and on TV. The Batman has run it's course and is being succeeded by Batman: Brave and the Bold, which will run it's course and be replaced by the next incarnation. It will go on forever.
And if you've enjoyed the work of the writers and artists contributing to The Batman Strikes, we will all be going on to other things whether they are Batman related or not. Keep an eye out for it and bring your vocal support to those new projects.
And I'll do my best to keep in touch and let everyone know what I'm up to.

The "embargo" on using Two-Face, Scarecrow or Ra's al Ghul that was in place for the entire run of The Batman and The Batman strikes did not lift for the final issues. Sadly, those are among my favorite villains.
I don't know yet if I'll be working on the Brave and the Bold comic. I'm exploring my options right now, and still have three and a half issues of Batman Strikes yet to complete...

One of the unfortunate side effects of the series ending is that several scripts I wrote won't be used. Among them are my first-ever Riddler script and a Black Mask story that revives one of my all-time favorite DC heroes, a character I discovered as a tween in the 1980s.

How about tweeking the scripts a bit and use them in a regular DCU Batman book. There's always Batman Confidential.

There's nothing I'd like better. But that's up to the editors. And since they've got Grant, Paul and other A-list writers on those titles now -- and considering Batman is at the center of the DCU crossovers for at least the next year -- it may be a long wait.

Yes, but that's the beauty of Batman Confidential. It's an anthology book with stories taking place in Batman's past. You'd be a shoe-in for that book.

Oooh! That looks awesome. Love the cover art. It's very intense. It sounds like it will make a great Halloween issue.
That's really sad that a lot of planned scripts won't get to be used now. =( Would it be possible to hear just some little summaries of what would have happened in them, or would that not be possible just in case they could be tweaked for something like Batman Confidential?

Personally i think its no big loss , right when "The Batman" TV show came out i was seriously mad at what they had made batman into. In that show they cant even show guns like the old ones, they always use lasers and stuff like that. I have watched ever single episode (seasons 1-4) of the old batman animated series at least 3 times and "The batman" isnt even close to how good the old ones where. At least it wasnt as bad as "Batman Beyond" which almost ruined Batman in general! I hate to be the downer but i would never read one of those cartoon network batman comic books, it is probably poorly written and animated. Just my thoughts :x hope i didnt offend anyone....

You cant critisize a medium, like the cartoon based comics, if youve never read them. Actually, those books feautred some great storytelling by some fine writers. The only reason these books get cancelled is because the show they are helping to represent have come to an end, and they usually run for a bit after the show ends.
As for Batman Beyond, it hardly ruined, or even came close to ruining, the Batman character. There is a large and strong fanbase for that show, and it was so popular they keep revisiting it in both comics, cartoons, and toys.
