hi guys I need to pick your brains, I have been out of the comics loop for a while (about 5 or 6 years) and yes I am ashamed of myself. Could you guys tell me the purpose in the "Crisis" story lines? Please dont laugh at me,I am just very uneducated. Cheers guys!!!!

- Crisis on Infinite Earths:
purpose: merge the multiverse into one earth.
- Identity Crisis:
purpose: to be a great mystery story, show that the heroes arent safe, make Dr. Light a top tier villain, set the stage for the new Eclipso, show why Batman is so paranoid and set the stage for OMAC Project and Infinite Crisis, set the stage for Catwoman and why she was a hero, create the new Captain Boomerang, do something tragic to Robin, do something tragic to Ray Palmer, which set up stuff for Final Crisis.
- Infinite Crisis:
purpose: recreate the multiverse into 52 seperate Earths.
- Final Crisis:
purpose: complete disrespect of Jack Kirby, by recreating the New Gods in the way that Grant Morrison wants them. creation of the Fifth World, possible changes to characters that are currently unknown due to the fact that this series is currently going on so it's end purpose has not been established yet.

Crisis on Infinite Earths rebooted alot of stuff and killed a few characters, but the more recent Crisis stuff didnt. Identity Crisis killed off a few popular characters, Infinite Crisis killed off a bunch of Batman villains, and Final Crisis reinvented the New Gods.

I dont see the sense in killing off popular characters but what do i know,i only buy the comics and books that keep the guys at DC in work. which popular characters got killed off? they killed the Barry Allen Flash and Supergirl in COIE. they killed the Wally West Flash (he came back though) and Superboy in Infinite Crisis. they killed Jack Drake and Captain Boomerang in Identity Crisis. the lead up to Final Crisis killed the Bart Allen Flash. Firefly, Ratcatcher, and Charaxes were killed during Infinite Crisis. Ted Kord Blue Beetle was killed during Infinite Crisis. Shayera Thal as well during that series (i'm still mad about that, but at least it happened during the greatest story of Infinite Crisis and it did add to the story and it is war, people are supposed to die), Matt Hagen Clayface died during COIE. plus Bludhaven was wiped out during Infinite Crisis. a ton of other characters were killed too, but those were the popular ones that i can think of off the top of my head.
