I never really gave much thought to this costume, at least not until I was able to see some in person. When I was a kid, this was the costume I tried to imulate. There was always a part of me that wanted to do one the right way, and now Ive decided to do that. But that isnt the topic of this thread. Its to give some details about the West costume that some may not know about. I was actuall shocked as to some of the details that went with this particular costume. Ill be adding some pics to go along with this, and adding new information on the different parts weekly, but for now lets just discuss.
The gloves.
Did you know that the palm of these gloves are leather? I didnt. I always thought they were just blue stretch material.
The cape
The satin cape always seemed pretty simple to me. Satin with a snap around the neck. Turns out, there are actually 7 different snaps that are used to hold this cape into place. Seems that this satin cape is a bit heavy and to help ease the pressure around the neck they came up with a holding system on the suit to help with this. It also helped with keeping the cape in the proper position for all those shots. There are snaps on each shoulder, 2 on the lower back, 1 on the back of the cowl, and 2 more on the cape itself on the shoulder to hold the "fold over". The snap on the back of the cowl also helped from having the tunic/collar come up when Batman was turning his head and moving around.

Huh, I didn't know all that about the costume, having never seen it in person. Thanks for filling us in Shadowbat.
I personally grew up with Adam West being my first example of Batman also. I really wish some of the younger generations out there now had too. I think the appreciation of it may die with us.

Boots
Something a little different with the Adam West boots, was the height. Unlike the comic books and the movies, the 60's costume had relatively low cut boots. The "point" in the front was only 13" while the back was an average of 9" from the base of the heel.
Chest emblem
There were a couple of different types used. These were very simple little chest emblem made of cardboard or vinyl. They were then basicaly taped to the chest. This is why in some episodes the chest emblem is in different places on the suit!

Hmmm... those are interesting little snippets of information about the suit. Thanks for posting them. I especially find the cape and emblem interesting. I had no idea the emblem was only cardboard and they only taped it on! Wow. And about the cape, that's crazy. Oh, and Matt, some of us younger Bat-Fans really do appreciate the Adam West Batman!
