the new Azrael isnt Jean Paul Valley. its supposedly the Third Batman, but that hasnt been confirmed. its 100% not JPV though.
if you are only interested in JPV Azrael stuff than i suggest picking up the Batman: Sword of Azrael mini series and the entire 100 issue run of Azrael, as well as the 4 annuals.
if you are only interested in the new Azrael and you were misinformed that he was Valley, than i suggest picking up the 3 issue arc that featured the Third Batman in Batman or just waiting until the new Azrael series begins.

also, St. Dumas himself has never once appeared in an issue of Manhunter. agents of the Order of St. Dumas have appeared to try to get Mark Shaw to become Azrael, but he refused. the new Azrael has nothing to do with the Order of St. Dumas. this Azrael is a member of the Order of Purity. they are 2 seperate, basically unrelated organizations. Batman and the Outsiders #14(?) seems pretty connected. and thats correct. that issue features the new Azrael and the Order of Purity in it. that issue and the arc from the Batman are really the only issues relating to the new Azrael up to this point.

well i didnt say that valley was the new azrael although jean paul valley is probobly alive
i imagine the new azrael will have a fight with him eventually
i already have sword of azrael and the whole azrael run i was wanting to add all the manhunter (3rd series) issues related to the new azrael, st. dumas, batman, and all of it
PS check out the cover of manhunter (1st series), #18 mark shaw on the front and it looks just like the st. dumas logo just some food for thought
"also, St. Dumas himself has never once appeared in an issue of Manhunter. agents of the Order of St. Dumas have appeared to try to get Mark Shaw to become Azrael, but he refused. "
yes this is exactly what i'm looking for
what all issues of manhunter involve this?

Mark Shaw is not and has never been Azrael. the Order of St. Dumas asked him and he declined. it was in one issue of Manhunter, 31 i believe, and that was it. as for the cover of issue 18 of the first series. that issue came out in 1989, many, many years before Azrael made his debut. and the mark on his face is just a Saints logo. yes Azrael used one on his costume, but that particular issue of Manhunter has nothing to do with Azrael or the Order of St. Dumas as neither had appeared yet and werent even thought of yet.

i know there isnt a new azrael, but there is a lot building up to it so mark shaw declined in issue #31, but how long had the order been in manhunter comics i tried googling and came up with a few issues, but nothing definitive
what do you mean "third batman"

^ in the flagship Batman title, there was an arc that took place before R.I.P. involving a man named Lane was one of the 3 replacement Batman. they were former cops pumped up on a new strain of Venom. Lane was the only one of the three to have his own seperate arc following that in which he tortured Batman. Lane is known as the Third Batman, or Third Man. he is the new Azrael.
as for Manhunter, it was only that one issue. Mark Shaw isnt in too many issues as he isnt the featured character of the book, Kate Spencer is.

Anyone thinking of picking up the new Azrael miniseries starting this march. I'm thinking of collecting it as well as 'Batman:Battle for the Cowl' and 'Oracle'.

I'll flip through the new Azrael. But like the new Anarky, I'm not that keen on DC replacing the characters I enjoy.
