In a confrontation with the living embodiment of the evil Darkseid, Batman breaks his vow never to kill and fires a god-bullet into the heart of the dark god before being struck in the head and chest by Darkseid's Omega Sanction—twin beams of pure destructive energy—in the pages of Final Crisis #6. The final splash page of the issue showed a solemn Superman holding the lifeless, charred husk of his friend in his arms.

Batman isnt dead. and Darkseid's Omega Sanction isnt pure destructive energy. he can shoot that kind of energy into someone, but the Omega Sanction that he used on Batman is basically "Death that is Life", as Darkseid says. expect a rebirth of some sort.
and i didnt see the bullet go into Darkseid's heart. it hit him in the shoulder.

To add to what you said... "Back in Seven Soldiers: Mister Miracle, Morrison redefined the classic “Omega Effect” as the Omega Sanction, a sort of dimension where you live an endless number of lives, over and over again, reincarnating every time, never able to rejoin with the Source. Mister Miracle escaped from that, so it’s not impossible that Batman could either." www.funnybookbabylon.com/2009/01/14/final-crisis-6-how-to-murder-the-earth/Another quote I found elsewhere... "...and this is what happened: Shilo Norman is hit with the Omega Sanction and he sent through a series of oppressive lives. These lives are where he is always defeated by life and by others. In the end, Shilo finds the will to escape the "death trap" and to live again. But all of those experiences happened. Other people recall those experiences (like Shilo being the Warden of the Slab in Antartica). Shilo lived those lives in the same reality." www.comicboards.com/app/show.php?rpy=batman-2009011500503715

You know Matt, this is pretty big news. Maybe you should make this thread avaible on all forums of the site? Or maybe make a memorial banner for the top? I mean, Batman just died.

You know Matt, this is pretty big news. Maybe you should make this thread avaible on all forums of the site? Or maybe make a memorial banner for the top? I mean, Batman just died. you must have missed mine and knippenberg's posts. when did Batman die? did you read a different Final Crisis # 6 than everyone else? Morrison clearly said that Batman's fate would be "a fate worse than death". thats the Omega Sanction. and all his torture was to prepare him for it anyway. Darkseid isnt dead either. wherever you got your information on the issue and the Omega Sanction is incorrect. as knippenberg pointed out, it is possble to escape from the Omega Sanction. Shilo Norman did it, and Batman a very well trained escape artist, who's only a step below Norman in that regard. i think its safe to say that Batman will be returning real soon. so to sum up once again, Batman is NOT Dead. please read the issue again and brush up on your Darkseid knowledge if you think he is.

would you mind explaining all this omega sanction stuff? I just don't understand it, my bad it basically takes away your will and makes you go through life over and over and over and over. the Mister Miracle mini is where it was really fleshed out. knippenberg explained it better than i can, so read his post. i havent read that series, but i may have to get it just to get a very clear perception of it myself. Darkseid calls it "the death that is life". basically you have to have a very, very strong will to escape it. Batman does, which is why we know he'll definitely escape it. thats where he's gone to, which is why we get "Battle for the Cowl". once he escapes the Omega Sanction he should be back as Batman. Batman is 100% not dead though.

Hooray!!!!!! Im so glad of that, being out of the loop for so long I didnt know about the "omega sanction" so thanks for clearing that up guys.
It is a very powerful image though, is there going to be a mini-series following Bruces battle to escape (if that is the right term) the Omega sanction?
I hope the comics are going to go back to being traditional Batman stories.

That would be cool, just to see what is happening as Gotham goes to hell and how Bruce deals with being in a state of "limbo"
Will Bruce be aware of waht is going on in Gotham while he is in the Omega Sanction?

^ i doubt he's aware but i really dont know. i just ordered that Mister Miracle mini-series this morning, so once it arrives and i read it i'll know more. knippenberg might know, as he posted on that particular series, so maybe he can shed alittle more light. if he doesnt then i'll definitely post all about it after i read the series. it should be arriving sometime next week.

I haven't read the comics in years so this mean nothing to me. The Dark Knight will return, this is about one thing: MONEY. "Alls they care about is money...DC deserves a better class of editors and I'm gonna give it to them." LOL

Bruce got hit with the same thing that Sonny Sumo got hit with awhile back and just got sent back in time. only Batman got sent all the way back to the prehistoric era. he didnt get hit with the same type that Shilo Norman got hit with, as i originally thought.

I'm actually surprised that people thought Batman was killed off. We all know he's coming back, the question is only when.

i can call it now. Blackest Night will occur. and every dead character in the DCU will be a part of the Black Lanterns and Batman wont be. this will make everyone in the DCU realize that Batman isnt actually dead and that will lead to the company wide event, The Search For Batman.
