First art and cover inside.by Richard George US, March 10, 2009 - For several months, ever since the conclusion of Batman R.I.P. and Last Rites, DC fans have been dying to know when Grant Morrison would return to the helm of the Dark Knight franchise. During recent conventions, plans for books like Batman and Detective Comics were revealed, but specific news regarding Grant Morrison was kept in the dark. The blockbuster writer had explicitly said he'd be back - but on what title? With what artist? With what concept? Now we know. DC has announced that Grant Morrison will team with artist Frank Quitely on a new Batman series called "Batman & Robin". The title will start in June alongside the new directions for Detective Comics and Batman and series launches for Gotham City Sirens, Red Robin and Batman: Streets of Gotham. Here is the first cover for Batman & Robin alongside the first interior art by Quitely. Be sure to check back tomorrow, as we'll have first details from Morrison himself on this new series and its new direction. Also be sure to tune in on Friday as IGN unveils its latest Batman video, this time walking through the concepts of seven of the major Batman titles coming this June. Included in the video will be art and covers for all titles, including new Quitely art for Batman & Robin!

I'm not impressed by the art. At least we can say now that Damian will be Robin. I don't know if I'll pick this up or not. I was only planning on just starting picking up Batman, Detective Comics, and Streets of Gotham in June. This feels like a replacement for the Robin title and I never followed it that much. We'll see.

We know that Bruce isn't dead, but according to this interview... "IGN Comics: Do you consider Batman & Robin, despite featuring new people under the mask, yet another lens on the life of Bruce Wayne?
Morrison: No, this isn't about Bruce Wayne at all, except in as much as it deals with his absence.
IGN Comics: One of the things your Batman work has done this far is really dig into the past of the franchise, resurrecting old concepts and breathing new life into them. Will you still be doing that now that Bruce is no longer wearing the mask?
Morrison: 'Batman and Robin' mostly features all new characters, villains and situation – although some were previously glimpsed in Batman #666 - but it builds on everything that's gone before.
IGN Comics: You've also mentioned to us that Bruce and Batman are inseparable – will a large part of Batman & Robin deal with the fact that this new hero can't actually be Batman?
Morrison: Absolutely. That's part of the fun of this particular iteration of the character. No one can live up to Bruce Wayne's standards."
I'm not interested in Damian being Robin and I'm certainly not interested in someone else being Batman, flagship or not.

DC fans dying to know when Morrison would return to the helm of the Dark Knight? Are the article writers high? Most DC fans hate Morrison. I just wonder what "crisis" DC will have to clean up Grant's crap.
