I know it's probably WAY to early to start whining, but does anyone else miss the Bruce Wayne Batman? Now don't get me wrong the Batman universe was getting a little stale and some fresh air in the form of a new Batman and Robin is a great way for writers, also tasting the staleness, to tell new and interesting stories. I don't think that could've been accomplished with a Bruce and Damian dynamic. Truth be told I like Dick Grayson, but I like Dick Grayson as Nightwing. Dick was always the natural successor to the cape and cowl just because he's got so much natural talent and a daredevil attitude. I actually saw Tim Drake as a better long term candidate as a Batman replacement due to his superior detective abilities but since we all know this isn't a long term position Dick will do just fine. Still I miss the Bruce Wayne Batman. Here's the thing, much like Daredevil it's the man under the costume that's so much more interesting. Dick Grayson's life has been way more interesting out of costume than in. With a great string of girlfriends and jobs Dick has been crafted into a man totally unlike his mentor. Over the years we've lost Bruce Wayne to the Batman and a lot of clever writers have come along to try and restore the balance but poor Bruce always ends up being swallowed by his own creation. What was once crime fighting is now referred to as Bruce's one man " Holy War". The Batman is always skating the edge of the dark abyss but never falls in. He's a tragic character that you feel sorry for and cheer for at the same time. He is mentally and physically perfect, but can barely form any type of relationship with his fellow humans. I guess Dick Grayson's self doubting well adjusted Batman, although refreshing, reminds me of why I collect Batman comics and although Bruce should be pushing sixty by now there can only truly ever be one Batman for me. So to quote William Shatner in The Search For Spock "To absent friends."

Yes, Bruce will always be THE Batman and he will be back eventually. Until then I'm loving Dick as Batman.

The way I see Dick as Batman is that this is like a roller coaster ride. You can either have fun with it and enjoy the experience, or you can puke half way through. Bruce can never die because his character is so important. For now, it is a fun reprive from Bruce. You'll get him back, so why worry? I'm just hoping this ride isn't so short that I feel cheated out of the experience.

Honestly in batman and robin "reborn", i really dont like dick as batman, he is always contradicting himself, he doesnt seem very professional, and half the story is him whinnying and sitting around thinking, the hole "i never wanted to be batman" thing,
i like daimans view on the matter a little more, even though he isnt the best sidekick or detective. I recall dick complaining about things and he said something like "if you dont want to do it, then step aside grason, i was born to do this job" or something like that. He has more of the additude that i would want batman to have, when dick is still acting like a robin

He's still trying to find his place in the cowl.

The Reborn stuff is only moderately better than the whole RIP /final crisis stuff. Im fine with Dick taking up the role but this is just more busines as usual with DC and the Bat universe... decent ideas poorly executed.

I agree with you totally yaddle! I want Bruce back, and he will always be THE Batman, the ONLY Batman!!! I need no reprive, I mean Bruce's Batman is the character we fell in love with! We didn't fall in love with a Dick Grayson character. Putting Dick behind the cowl changes the character and in turn changes the Batman. I do not want a change in my Batman, he can never get tiring! If you want a reprive go to another superhero, and leave the character that hundreds of thousands of people adore alone! I hope this Dick thing is as short lived as possible, I want MY Batman back!!

I miss Bruce. Dick is too much of a show off and he is just being Nightwing in the Bat suit. Don't take that the wrong way I like him as Nightwing. But there should have been some kind of new maturity or something about him. Things just aren't the same. I agree we did fall in love with Bruce Wayne Batman. Batman issue 689 just showed me how much I miss Bruce I mean Batman Doesn't smile while he kicks butt. Plus the real Batman isn't a glory hound. I do have to give it to Paul Dini in streets od Gotham his Dick/Batman is a little more tolerable, but it's still not my Batman.
