Batgirl legionsofgotham.proboards2.com/index.cgi?board=bringonthebatman&action=display&n=1&thread=1249&start=0Kids' WB! unveiled its 2005-2006 lineup on Wednesday, including the return of The Batman for a second season that will include Batgirl. The Batman will air on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and will also air weekdays at 4:30 p.m. Here's how the network describes the new season: "In this captivating second season, The Batman will face a little competition to protect the citizens of GothamÅ from a teenaged girl -- Batgirl. She has just flown into town to do her part in keeping the streets safe from the most dangerous and occasionally hysterical super villains out there. Is there enough room in Gotham for two Caped Crusaders?"

[shadow=purple,left,300]THAT was an unexpected announcement. This is interesting... I can't wait for this! Sounds like it will be a slam-dunk season!
And is Gordon joining the cast too? Or is that just an old rumor?[/shadow]

Was gonna post this in Matt's "2005 season info" thread... Really intersted to learn the "true story" on this. It cant be that simple? Has to be some kind of "tease" or something. A misleading (or misunderstood) statement of some kind I'm sure.

[glow=blue,2,300]I agree with you too Robo, it seems a little too new wave for my tastes, I mean sure, this is suppposed a show taking Batman into new directions, and I've supported it as that but what happened to there being no sidekicks, and it being about Batman in his solo days ? It seems like a drastic turn used to bring it ratings, but I thought ratings were storng ? This seems very weird. Of course this show is for kids but it seems like too much of a change for just the second season. [/glow]

I just hope Batgirl, doesnt go the way of Batman and Robin, and have her related to Alfred or worse Bruce.

[shadow=green,left,300]Yes this information was in the press release today from KidsWB!
Now we need to clear up some things..firstly its not like batgirl is going to ride into town. Babs Gordon is coming to town as a teenager. and yes so will the future Commish.
Over time she will evolve into the role of Batgirl. It appears from this release that they've combined season 2 and 3 together. Now I've seen batgirl and she is perfect for the show! Very perfect.
She will also have a certain female villian she faces off against in the show..I can't say who just yet, but it will make fans very happy. They start out as friends and end up turning into enemies..much like Bruce and Ethan........[/shadow]
(I'm assuming you meant 'I've seen Batgirl' rather than 'I've been Batgirl' ;D - Reideen)

This is really interesting. I didn't really want sidekicks to be introduced just yet. But if anything put Robin in!
Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see.

I posted a comment in another thread several days ago that this new series could use a) less cliches b) more depth in plot, perhaps through two-part episodes (coming up in the finale) and c) an ally for the Batman (I mentioned the Cassandra Cain Batgirl among Leslie Thompkins and others) - this news is surprising, and I am liking the idea, but I'm a little disappointed that it's Babs again. Barbara Gordon as Batgirl is money in the bank - sort of like Dick Grayson as Nightwing; you know they're there, with seasons worth of Batman mythology and conflict to portray. Cassandra Cain as Batgirl has an original, poignant and overall fantastic backstory, with compelling side characters and action elements that would be perfect for this show. Her Asian descent also fits perfectly into the vaguely manga-esque artistic design of the series. Seems like an opportunity lost to me.

[shadow=green,left,300]lol you guys whine about everything. This is a new universe..they're telling the mythos in the order and direction they want to. Who really cares if Robin shows at all. He may not ya know....thats not decided really. And I'm very interested to see how batman would function in different situations and surroundings...I'm tired of the same timeline and tales over and over...I like the potential for new stories.
As for Cassie being used...thats a great idea, but would never get the ok from the suits....you have to remember that the show's creative team and the suits giving the Ok are two very different groups..they want recognizible names and faces when possible. We fans may not agree with it..but since when have we EVER seen eye to eye with the suits?!
lol. you're all hilarious. Just wait til you SEE batgirl...she's very cool. And has a cool storyline..give her a chance[/shadow]

I must say i agree with you Matt,i have no issue whatsoever with Batgirl being the first ally and the fact that it's Babs. I enjoy new takes and concepts regarding the Bat,after all it's what happens in Comic Books. Why should a Cartoon be any different?I am totally confident in Jeff Matsuda and all the creative team behind this and i am 100% certain that it will be handled beautifully. There were a lot of naysayers before this show first went to air and then it died off.Now that Season 2 is looming the cycle repeats itself. And i thought it was older people who were resistant to change, well i am one of the oldest members here and i say i can't wait to see it all pan out with Batgirl!

at least it's babs and not a drastic reinterpretation of Batgirl. I guess we should thank God for small things. But babs before Dick is sacrilegious...Bane I could forgive, but batgril before robin is...well..asinine at best! At worst, it's a loss that they don't tie The Batman in with TT.

I see it kinda two ways.
I don't agree with it. First, I think they are bring her in way to early. He's just got 13 eps under his belt, and yea, I understand that it might not be RIGHT away, but still, I'd say wait until Season 4 to bring in any Sidekicks. Then, it should be Robin.
I understand though, I'm sure they want to attract more girl veiwers, and Batgirl will do that.

[shadow=green,left,300]allowe me to stress that its not like its going to be Babs in episode one of season two..its more halfway through the season or so.
and who says she's his sidekick? Not everyone in a cape and cowl works with the bat.[/shadow]

I can't wait to see her. I think this will be very interesting. Also I am curious about the female villain, sounds cool. But who is it? Poison Ivy? That would rock, but as teenager Lady Shiva maybe? Or are they going to make a hero the villainess like Black Canary or Huntress? I think it would be to early for a Robin and a sidekick for Batman. But with Batgirl is a clever move to give Batman another threat than just the villains. A teenage hero who wants to help but Bats don't need it and he must look after Batgirl and all the stuff ;D Oh I can't wait

[shadow=red,left,300]I can't wait for her to premiere. Sure alot of purists out there will be up in arms over her appearance, to which I say.. . This is a new interpretation of Batman. Sure alot of what makes Bats, the people around him, and his world tick have remained the same, but at the same time changes have been made to the characters to keep them exciting and fresh. I for one enjoy it, and I'm looking forward to what future seasons bring.[/shadow]

It doesn't bother me at all that she is appearing. At least were all going to see the commish real soon. Matt have you seen what Gordan looks like yet?

[shadow=purple,left,300]I was hoping Batgirl was Cassie Cain, since this is a different Batman universe, but none the less I'm excited to learn more about this new development! I can't wait to see how this turns out, and I have high expectations! (most of them are aimed at how Commissioner Gordon and that mystery villain are written into the show)
As for Robin appearing first... frankly, I don't care whether or not he shows up at all. I've never cared for him... he always seems to get in the way... with a few excellent exceptions.[/shadow]

I for one am THRILLED about Batgirl coming into the show! Sure, part of me wants to see Robin first, but I think that this is a great thing for the show. No matter how this turns out, it is sure to keep us on pins and needles waiting for her to show!

This sounds absolutely awesome! I think a girl with some attitude is JUST what the Batman needs! As for the villainess, I've narrowed it down to a couple options:
1- Lady Shiva Seems likely, as they did this in Birds of Prey (the TV series).
2- Poison Ivy I love the idea of teenage Ivy- the rogue-esque aspects of her power (not being able to touch anyone) and her blaming Barbara would put an interesting spin on the character...and I can dream, can't I?
3- Spellbinder This is the only potentially female villain I've heard is going to be in the show, so it's possible. I don't think it would be as cool, though.
4- Phantasm The Scarecrow-esque villain /\/\att mentioned earlier? Personally, I hope not, but I guess a redesign would be pretty cool...

Also, I'd like to point out that we'll NEVER get Robin as long as Teen Titans is doing well (introducing the main character on another popular show as if it's the first time he's appeared? The networks would LOVE that...).
