Personally, I fall into the I haven't sat down and read mine yet camp (I'm so behind on my comics ) and I haven't heard much buzz about this, so I'm curious. Did it suck? I really liked the last issue of the regular GL series and how Kyle took care of Major Force. Was this a let down? Participate in the poll, and then tell me why you answered like you did!

personally, i'm a big green lantern fan, i really hope they didnt kill off kyle rayner though. here's hoping he's just coma induced or something. its going to be real interesting to see how hal breaks the spectre and regains the trust of the other heroes. i doubt batman will ever trust him. but others like superman no doubt eventually will. i hope this means sinestro will be back, even if he's in that same form from the spectre series the last time he returned. and what will happen to john stewart?

I actually read it in the store, I didn't mean to but I kept turning pages. Funny thing about this rebirth is that it's been long enough that they can bring Hal back and they could even have an "evil Hal/Parallax" co exist with him. Look, after bringing Ollie back anythings possible oh and in breaking news "This just in: Barry Allen is still dead!" Back to you, Reid.

Heard nothing but good word about Rebirth so far, both from hardcore GL fans and casual readers alike. Haven't read it myslf yet but I definitely want to eventually (I'll probably wait for the trade or at least for the series to be wrapped up before I buy and read the whole thing myself).

Hal Jordan should remain deceased. Spectre is a sweet character and a good enough excuse to keep Hal around. I don't think that it's feasible that anyone in their right mind would trust Hal with the same kind of power he had before.
How many Green Lanterns on Earth are there again? John S., Kyle R.(betta not be dead!), Alan S., and now Hal? Earth is a pretty sad case if we need 4 men with the most powerful weapon in the universe and a Superman.

[glow=blue,2,300]I wasn't really a big Green Lantern fan, I thought he was an okay character, but I was impressed with "Rebirth." I really like the complexity of Hal Jordan's character, being Hal, Spectre, Green Lantern, Paralax, etc. [/glow]

I dislike Hal greatly. He's a boring character and the only thing I can see my really liking about this series is if they DO NOT GET RID OF RAYNER and reform the corp or if it is to kill Hal Jordan for good with no chance of coming back.

I FINALLY sat down and read this over my lunch hour. (Imagine me, sitting in the corporate headquarters lunch room, reading my comics ;D)
I'm intrigued! I will definately be picking up #2. I liked the evil grin on the Spectre's face when he burnt Black Hand's, well, hand off. Almost as if he's enjoying the "vengence" and pain he inflicted on Black Hand. Seeing Guy's body fighting itself and Batman's reaction to the possibility of Hal coming back were excellent scenes! I can't wait to see Batman's mistrust of Hal explored in depth.

im looking forward to this but you have to wonder how the other heroes will react to him and the hostility that batman has toward him.also what will happen to john stewart(a thoroughly useless character that seems to have had a personality bypass, much like his character in the cartoon)we seem to have a clutter of lanterns knockin around, as we say here in ireland.......

[glow=red,2,300]I've always liked comics since i was little but when i really got hooked on them i started with a graphic novel about Rayner/Jordon (Emerald Knights?) and i was a fan of Hal instantly. I rejected Kyle but he grew on me but i'm still loyal to Hal. Anywho i liked this comic, it was pretty good and just one step on the staircase of a great story! (i know that was a stupid comparison of stairs but....nah i have no excuse.)[/glow]

It's still a bit early in the series for me to give an honest opinion. GL:Rebirth #2 comes out next week. The first issue had me a bit confused, is Kyle dead? other than that it was a great read

I just sat down last night and re-read both issues 1 and 2 of rebirth-Geoff Johns can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. He really "Gets" all the characters in the DC Universe-something a lot of writers miss.I love the interaction between all the members of the League-the way he writes Batman and how other people react to Batman is especially good.I cant wait to read the rest of this series. The way they killed off Hal originally was a tragedy-they took a character that had been a beloved hero for decades, turned him into a raving psycho murderer, and then killed him off in one of the lamest ways possible. Its about time this character gets redeemed by a good writer.

Ok. I just got caught up on all my reading. I really like this series! I want to know what's going on with Kyle, Guy, John and Alan. I have a hunch that Sinestro is going to be revealed as being behind it somehow. He needs to come back - GL just isn't GL without Sinestro! I also like how Batman was splitting up the people that knew Hal the best - just in case something went wrong. GA is the perfect choice to lead the 2nd team, if necessary.
Other thoughts?

Has the second issue hit yet? I've read the first issue about 5 times and I'm dying for #2.

Has the second issue hit yet? I've read the first issue about 5 times and I'm dying for #2. Yes it hit about 2 weeks ago, IIRC. If you missed it, there is a 2nd printing out also - your comic shop should be able to order you one of those. The covers are different - the first is the color cover shown in my post from 11/23. The 2nd print is the same cover, done in black and white. It is excellent - track it down - it's worth it! LMK if you need one - I can check around here and send it media mail - it would cost cover plus shipping.

Based on DC's site, it is scheduled to be out next week 12/22/04. It doesn't show up on the new comics list though.... I'll do some more research and let you know for sure.

Let me throw out a possible Countdown scenario: ID Crisis ends and the common belief is that someone or something can control the DCU characters. Then there's the repeated mention of eye coloring including Luthor's eyes glowing green at the end of the recent Supes/Bats storyline. Okay, now skip to rebirth and the forshadowing of the return of Parallax. Here's a theory (agree, disagree, ignore-I just wanted to try it out) What if Parallax wasn't actually Hal but rather was an entity onto itself (like the Phoenix in the old X Men) who possessed Jordan and was forced to separate from him upon his death, this entity plays on a person's secret desires and frees up their "id" so that any price justifies the desired outcome (ex: Jean wanting Ray back in ID Crisis and the lengths to which she went). Now it's back and we've only seen the first act. Major crossovers at DC are done on a cosmic scale-what if the heroes couldn't trust anyone (Bat's will really be in his element). At the very least this would cleanse Hal's image. I know it may be bad form to quote oneself but events in issue 3 now make me think that this is even more of a possibility.

If you haven't read Rebirth 3 yet, don't read this post.....................................................................
Okay, still here? Good. Although this is shaping up to be a rather simplistic plot :bad entity Parallax trapped in the power battery, "escapes", takes control of Jordan and makes him do bad things. Now it's gonna be a battle of wills and the end result ? Well we all saw the action figures! Y'know what ? I don't care how they bring him back-I'd buy any story at this point and explaning away Hal's actions in Zero Hour as the result of having been possessed by another entity works for me...'cause y'know what? Hal is back!
