So is Loeb going exclusive to Marvel still a "might," or has it been decided? Still a 'might' right now. Nothing has been released from the Marvel camps - you know as soon as the ink is on the paper they will have a press release announcing it.

from the NY Times:
Back to Batman
Frank Miller, an acclaimed comic book artist and writer who helped revolutionize the comics industry in 1986 with "The Dark Knight Returns," a grim vision of an elderly Bruce Wayne, is taking on Batman again. Mr. Miller has been announced as the writer of "All-Star Batman and Robin," which will be published by DC Comics in July as part of a new group of titles in which top artists and writers will create stories not bound by decades of continuity. (In this case, Batman's partner is Dick Grayson, the first and best-known Robin, not Tim Drake, the third boy in the role.) "All-Star Batman and Robin" will be illustrated by Jim Lee, a fan-favorite artist of Batman and Superman titles. Mr. Miller has another feather in his cap this spring: in April, Disney's Dimension Films will release "Sin City," the live-action version of his violent crime-noir comic book, starring Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro and Jessica Alba. Miller returning to Batman is pretty big news - the New York Times is reporting on it. I think if DC does this right, it might just bring in quite a few new readers and bring back a lot of the ones that have left.

... it might ... bring back a lot of the ones that have left. Like me. I'm in. And with Dark Detective too. Though I hope Miller steps it up after the Dark Knight sequel, which I couldn't stand.

Am I the only one that remembers the rather craptacular DK2 that I spent WAY too much money on was horrid?
I'm not sold on Frank Miller, especially on a line that was billed as family friendly and open to everyone, much as I am not sold on Grant "I'm gonna try to write as weird as possible story" Morrison on Superman.
Jeph Loeb & Jim Lee on All-Star Batman & Geoff Johns & Quietly on AS Superman? Now THAT would have been bonkers crazy good.

Am I the only one that remembers the rather craptacular DK2 that I spent WAY too much money on was horrid? Not at all. I'm approaching this with a cautious enthusiasm. While DK2 was not terrific - it had some good moments, but like the SW prequels, I feel it was WAY over hyped. I've been very pleased with Miller's work on Sin City over the years, as well as 300. So he does have the potential to put out some good work. I am not sold on Grant "I'm gonna try to write as weird as possible story" Morrison on Superman. I can completely understand that. Seaguy was horrid. However his run on JLA was excellent and his Flash run wasn't too bad. He also did Aztek, which a number of people still like (for some reason I can't figure out ). So he could turn in some good work, as long as he has some specific guidelines - like don't be weird - to follow. Jeph Loeb & Jim Lee on All-Star Batman & Geoff Johns & Quietly on AS Superman? Now THAT would have been bonkers crazy good. Totally agreed.

Am I the only one that remembers the rather craptacular DK2 that I spent WAY too much money on was horrid? Why no. My post just prior to yours made the same point. I'll definitely give it a chance and I'm enthusiastic about it. But if it's as wretched as DK2, I'll go away with the idea that Miller had only two great Batman stories in him. Of course, those two stories are the best two Batman stories ever written. I do like the word craptacular, though.

You can use Craptacular anytime you like. That's my contribution to language that has begun to pick up in places.

A little more info is trickling out about the "All-Star" line:
Two additional titles are approved for the line so far. After Batman & Robin, then Superman, will come All-Star Wonder Woman (completing the All-Star series of DC's "big three"), and (borrowing the title of one of their oldest publications) All-Star Comics, which will feature All-Star interpretations of other DC characters by various creators. An All-Star Green Lantern is unlikely because DC wants to establish the integrity of the Geoff Johns version first. An All-Star JLA series which would feature characters from both versions of the cartoon (the newer one as well as Super Friends) has been mooted, and is likely to happen later on.

[shadow=Navy,left,300]Two-Face will appear in the series as will Catwoman, Joker and Penguin. Yeah it would be really cool to see figures. I hope Catwoman wears a purple costume again. And I really hope Poison Ivy is going to appear in the series. [/shadow]

A little more on All Star WW - the creative team behind it? Geoff Johns and Adam Hughes. Unless things change, like they did on the Loeb deal...

I'm sure DC Direct will make figures. They're doing some many other lines based on artists and storylines that I think they realize that they'd be foolish NOT to make a series based on DC's All Stars. It may not be just Bats or Superman, they may just do an ALL STAR line. I bet we'll see it in the next couple years.

It may not be just Bats or Superman, they may just do an ALL STAR line. I bet we'll see it in the next couple years. I think it will depend on sales. If this sells well, like Kingdom Come, Long Halloween or the Ed McG Supes/Bats series have, then yes, we'd probably see figures from the line. If, on the other hand, it sells like, say...the Stan Lee Imagined DC books did, or the Tangent Universe books did, we probably won't see figures.

I hope this doesn't violate board etiquette but I took the liberty of starting a new thread on this series because the other one contains a lot of speculation from before the official announcement. I found this Jim Lee interview on Newsarama and it has loads of info on the new series. Seemed like a good opportunity to start fresh. www.newsarama.com/DC/AS/LEE_BR_AStar.htmThanks again Batdan for posting this - I really appreciate it!
