here is a new artical from ign.com talking about the new gameplay for the game.
May 18, 2005 - EA and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's Batman Begins, based on the upcoming film, takes a different approach to the Dark Knight. Rather than a straight beat-em-up, Batman Begins utilizes Batman's mastery of fear to dominate his enemies. Even if you want to just run in and beat the crap out of baddies, you can't. After about a half hour playing Batman Begins, I can assure you that this game requires more thought at times than Splinter Cell.
In the current build, which is 95% complete, Batman can only take a few gunshots before dying, but many enemies carry machineguns. This means that if caught in the open against someone with a gun, Batman is dead in an instant. It's really amazing that a game based on a licensed movie could be allowed to be so difficult, but it's true. You must use the environment, you must use your brains and you definitely must take down gun-wielding enemies first. Begins controls are fairly simple. They are easy to master after messing around with the game for only a few minutes. The targeting system allows Bats to see which enemy has a gun, who is the leader and o see everyone's heart rate. A calm 60 beats means the enemy is in full control. Add some fear by exploding a gas tank or taking out the leader with a well-placed Batarang toss and the rate pumps up. Once a baddie is scared, their aim becomes erratic, their punches less effective. Scare someone enough and they will cower in fear, begging for clemency. There's no penalty for beating the crap out of them anyway.
Dropping into Begins several missions deep, I found myself getting chewed up by enemies. The AI is tough and aggressive. There's a lot of help to clue you in on enemy positioning and line-of-sight, but it's difficult not to approach Begins like any other action game. It's natural to run into a situation and think skill or power will allow you to be victorious. I died six times in the first 10 minutes with this attitude. It's been a common request that someone make a Batman game that plays like Splinter Cell. This isn't that game -- it plays different than Splinter Cell, it plays different than Metal Gear Solid. It's a unique brand of stealth-action and I'm really digging what I've played so far.
When you're not skulking around as either Bruce Wayne or Batman, you'll be driving through Gotham in the Batmobile (also known as the Tumbler). These missions can only be described as Burnout Begins. Though developer Eurocom swears the driving elements do not use the Burnout engine, Criterion was consulted for the racing missions.
In the Burnout Begins sections, you race through Gotham, hunting down enemies in cars. How do you take them out? Either with stinger missiles or by ramming through them. Bash through an enemy and the screen flashes, "Enemy Takedown." Add in the warbling effects from boosting and the blue guide arrows and Gotham City feels like it should be a track in Burnout: Revenge. The Begins version isn't as smooth, pretty, or slick as Criterion's beast, but it's a sensible and enjoyable fit.
It's not all glorious for Batman Begins. There are a few trouble points worth mentioning. The cape technology isn't too hot, so Batman's cape often flows right through him and the animations are not as fluid as other stealth-action titles. The combat, while fun, feels like it might get a bit repetitive and is perhaps too simplistic for its own good. But overall, this is looking like the Batman game we've all been waiting for, just as Batman Begins appears to be the Dark Knight film of the millennium.

[shadow=red,left,300]After reading the reviews thus far and seeing the game in action, I for one can't wait to pick this up. Who doesn't want to race through Gotham in the Tumbler? ;D[/shadow]

Disclaimer: I am NOT a game player.
This game is so cool loking I want to go buy a machine just to play it. My (5 yr old) son & I played it for about 30 min at the kiosk at Wizard World Phila. yesterday. I was so intrigued I couldn't stand the fact that I'm so inept with basic gaming...(I'm an old guy...never got past basic Atari games) We got on a PS2 platform but they had demos for several others. We watched some other more sophisticated players who really seemed to get into it. The look is so realistic and the whole first person feeling makes for great suspense. I'll be fascinated to see what gaming experts have to say.

I'm considering purchasing this one outright - instead of just renting it - if it's good enough. That is, if I don't get it for Father's Day.....

I am still on the fence as to whether or not I actually want to buy this game this week or wait until someone trades it in at Gamestop.
I will likely buy it out right since I can get the free preorder poster as well as the $12.00 movie ticket.

[shadow=red,left,300]Well I've only played through the first mission so far..and I'm not going to continue playing until after I see the movie, as the game is very spoiler filled. Even though I've only played through the first level, so far I have no complaints. The controls are nice and tight, not clunky at all. The graphics are great, and the voice acting makes it all the more better.
A few extras included in the game include unlockable Batsuits, including the grey and black suit, a blue and grey suit, & a blue & grey suit with the yellow oval Batsymbol. There are also plenty of scenes from the film shown in between levels to move the story along, as well as 2 Trailers and the Superbowl TV spot.

I have been playing this for the last 2 hours.
GO BUY IT NOW! I do not want to give too much away, but this has to be the BEST Batman game ever. More like "Splinter Cell" than anything else, it is a great take on the film. And the extras kick butt!
