Gotham's Ultimate Criminal Mastermind is a truly great standing point for ‘The Batman’ – The darkness of this episode was amazing; not only for this series; but for all of the animated Batman series! I was not expecting the episode to be this dark and violent but it was – The scene were D.A.V.E. breaks into the computer building and all you can see is a guards shadow being thrown across the room – was shocking for this series!
The background to D.A.V.E. is fully explained which is takes away any confusing parts! D.A.V.E. I found to be a great villain and the violence he commits is outstanding for The Batman! His finale was great in the batcave and I liked how the villain trophies were all being used! D.A.V.E. is the first villain to figure out Batman’s identity – and I believe that D.A.V.E. could return in the future!
Hugo Strange is figured out to be an insane criminal like the inmates he’s in charge of! His character arch slowly progressed over season 2 and 3 and it’s nice that he is now complete!
The Animation was at its peak here - the action sequences were well done and the dialogue never seemed cartoony. The villain traits that D.A.V.E. used could be matched to certain Rogues - which was a nice detail to his characterisation.
This episode was great – I didn’t like the repeating of what D.A.V.E. stands for etc. But apart from that I loved it! Another great Season Finale which gets a 9.5/10!!

REVIEW: Just like "The Icy Depths", during Season Three's run, one of the crew of TB revealed that one episode would feature a new-to-the-show villian in an episode that was a "old fashioned Batman". The villian was known as Dave. Then later it was D.A.V.E. Meaning it was a machine.
After "Thunder", we had two more episodes left of the season and I knew that while the Freeze/Penguin one wouldn't be suitable as the final episode, the D.A.V.E. one would. So we waited and waited, it kinda seemed long but it was actually three months. But the month before its US airing, this episode aired elsewhere and the people who caught loved it (more so than "Icy Depths"). Now it has aired, and I've been waiting for it, let's check it out shall we...
The episode: starting in Arkham, Dr. Strange presents a new way to fight crime: D.A.V.E. A powerful machine that copies the chararteristics of every villan so it can beat every one of them. However, it goes haywire and later, goes to a factory to build itself a new body. Then, D.A.V.E. boadcasts a message to everyone in Gotham that its the ultimate criminal mastermind and everything is secure to him. Nothing is safe. Dave enters the buiding where he is confronted by Batman, but D.A.V.E. knows every single movement Batman makes and escapes. D.A.V.E has what he wants. After much study in the cave, Batman figures out something...
Batman discovers that D.A.V.E.´s escape was no accident, and that the only person that coud prepare such error was Dr. Strange himself. Strange reveals to Batman that D.A.V.E. was created to confront and study Batman because Strange also programmed his own thoughts into the machine. The door bell rings in Wayne´s house, Alfred answers the door and D.A.V.E. is there. Asking if Batman is home...
This episode was actually pretty good. Whenn I heard the good things about Icy Depths then saw it, it wasn't as good as I thought. Great thing it was repeated here. As a season finale, it serves the Batman as a character in psychogical views. In the last act, it changes from Batman vs. DAVE to Bruce Wayne vs. DAVE as DAVE came up with a perfect way to defeat Batman as the side of someone. One of many examples of why the episode was good.
The main highlight was D.A.V.E. At first I thought the more human voice would be on the 50/50 side, but it did work on the level that it was designed to be human in villianly which is its how its designed as an A.I. Other times it could too much but when in times where its not in the good side, it doesn't ruin the effect on the screen. Since it has all the data on every villian, on Strange's part, Batman would be included as how he fights is equal to Batman's fighting moves. In many times, I thought of Terminator when seeing him in action. Sometimes when watching I thought DAVE was like a cyborg because while its an A.I., it did act like it was a human being being supprted by machines to stay alive. Of course, this isn't the case for real. Its a machine 100%.
Hugo Strange returns. We can tall that he had a new voice actor replacing the late Frank Gorshin. As performaces go, the new actor did his job pretty well. He does homage Gorshin's voice instead of ripping it off, that was good as you shouldn't do something in the negetive side to someone, even someone who passed away. When DAVE goes haywire, Strange becomes all worried and off guard and we believe. Then when he smiles at DAVE's appearence in the city, we know now he is involved. When Batman confronts him, Strange is now seen as an obsessed scientist who has become a villian like who he talks and studies on. At the end of this episode, Strange has moved on from mysterious, obsessed, to an enemy.
The story was good and well written. It focused on Bruce Wayne and Batman in each other's sides and what would each of the sides do in situations extreme to each other personally. The motiviation was reexplored and DAVE's plan against him in the batcave was handled maturly. The plan of having your secret identity revealed but your butler saved or secret identity saved but butler gone all came down to: he's still just one amn and what can he do. These stories are always good. This is no exception.
Overall; animation, voice acting, and sound were good as usual. The story was matured and with this epsiode, Season Three comes to a close. As an ending to the season: it goes back to who and what the main character is. A good...great end.
RATING: 9/10

I agree with the 9/10 rating. It was a great way to end, Batman using his brain over his brawn. Bring on Robin!

This was one of the best episodes of the season. I think though both this and THUNDER could've worked as a season finale. Now with this season to a close, I have one thing to say: BRING ON THE REAL DYNAMIC DUO!

[shadow=green,left,300]GREAT! DAVE is my new favorite villain... I know he got crushed by the giant penny, but I really hope he comes back. On a scale of one to ten, this episode makes a perfect 20[/shadow]

That episode was awesome. My favorite of all the seasons. So dark... They actually used REALISTIC GUNS, more BRAWL FIGHTING, very very dark, Alfred even got a black eye. Good episode. I loved how D.A.V.E. implemented all those crimes and unmasked Batman's mask.
/\/\att will season 4 be as dark as this?
10/10

This episode really was dark. More brawling, the cops had actual guns, Alfred had a black eye. Seeing this, you can see they really taking it to the next level with this show. I can't wait to see what they have in store with Season 4.

Excellent episode!
the part where D.A.V.E. was choking the guard was especially intense.
I also liked how Strange tried to shoot Batman with a stun-gun (showing that he wanted Batman left alive for studying).

I seem to be in the minority on this episode. I thought this episode ok, but it isn't as good as I expected. The entire beginning part just seemed like BRAINIAC. DAVE's creation and his upload onto a server was too similar. I thought the way DAVE acted so egotistical just made him seem less appealing as it seemed more like a common criminal type move. DAVE's defeat with Batman just asking a simple question is one of those ways that I hate an episode to end.
Now onto some positive things. The animation and voice acting were solid as always. The darkness of the episode was rather entertaining. Hugo was developed as a villain and that was a pretty cool way to go about it. Alfred getting a blackeye was just awesome! I wonder how long the producers had to fight to get that into the episode. And the fight that DAVE and Batman had when they were fighting on those ropes was one of the coolest fight seens I have seen on the show. The addition of all of the things that Batman had collected and their use was a welcome addition to the batcave. I love that giant penny. Overall I have very mixed feeling on the episode. I give it a 7.5/10.

I rerally enjoyed this ep. It may actually be enough to get me to watch the show more regularly. I still can'r stand the animation, but the voice acting was great! I really like Mitch Pileggi as Gordon and the actors that played Strange and D.A.V.E were excellent. The dialogue was very clever too. I especially enjoyed when D.A.V.E showed up at the Wayne mansion and asks "Is Bruce Home?" I wasn't a big fan of the character design for D.A.V.E but overall it's probably the best of all the villains IMO

Great episode, I loved how they showed the booking shots of Riddler and the others can't wait to get a picture of that. D.A.V.E impressed me but I have to admit for every action he did I knew which villain's characteristics he was using. He used most of Riddler's personality: Hacking into Gotham's Bank Acounts, Cracking codes, and using some cunning lines. This episode is one of my favorites now, but I have to say this, Why Did They Bust Riddler's Hour Glass >.< I loved that prop in the Batcave. Oh well, Partner I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of D.A.V.E, you never know what will happen. Overall I give this episode a 10 out of 10, this was an awesome Season Finale!

Im back froma 7 hour car wash in which we raised 1002 dollars I only got to see up to the part where D.A.V.E. was adding the final Riddler touch and putting his name in lights on the buildings. But from that, this was my absolute favorite episode of any Batman show ever! First of all, I liked how Bruce stayed in a constant serious manner, even from the beginning he never talked and was very stern. I loved the way D.A.V.E. was introduced. The animation truly amazed me. It all started from when D.A.V.E. started creating himself, it was amazing how different the animation was, so much better. The animation was the best of the series so far. D.A.V.E. had an excellent voice as well. Made him sound like an actual robot. What I really loved was his responses to Batman while they are fighting in the security building, he always comes back with very very smart responses and I thought they were quite amazing. I loved the darkness! Those gunshots were music to my ears and a feast to my eyes. I was glad they finally incorporated some more reality into the series. One of my favorite parts was the silhouette of D.A.V.E. grabbing a guard by the neck and throwing him. That's all I got to watch but I thought the animation was at its top, great storyline and dialogue, and amazing effects! Hope to watch the conclusion. 1000/10

That's where I heard his voice! Ragdoll! haha. Man so many good scenes in this Episode.
Favorite Scenes: D.A.V.E. pulling his signature all across gotham Fight scene on the ropes (so clever) Gotham ppl crowded around the screen waiting to see who The Batman was D.A.V.E.'s sillouhette on the T.V. screen D.A.V.E. unmasking The Batman D.A.V.E. breaking into the Gotham Central computer thing The Batman meeting Dr. Strange (I seriously thought The Batman was gonna beat the answer out of Dr. Strange) And the beginning with Bruce being so serious.
Good thing I recorded this...
