[shadow=green,left,300]Happy Halloween...Legions Of Gotham style![/shadow] this pic is an LoG exclusive. Do not post or replicate this picture anywhere for any reason. credit to worlds finest for the btas riddler[shadow=green,left,300]I know this design will get mixed reactions....maybe even moreso than the Joker did....I personally love it. Finally gives the Riddler the respect he deserves as a character....finally his outsides match his insides![/shadow]

[shadow=red,left,300]I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love this look for Riddler. He's long and lanky, not resembling much of a physical threat...but at the same time, he gives off a creepy vibe. [/shadow]

[shadow=teal,left,300]I LOVE it! There is just something about it. This is one of my favorite designs so far. Very Creepy, unlike the animated Riddlers in the past.
The others look so dull and lame next to this new version [/shadow]

I love him!I really dig the dark,goth-like feel about him. With the Riddler it was always about the mind games anyways so i don't have any issues with his physique. Matsuda's re-creations of the Rogues gallery is something i have really been enjoying! Thanks for the pic Matt, can't wait to see the figure now!

[shadow=blue,left,300]An absolutely amazing interpretation! As Matt eluded to, it is great to see The Riddler's exterior better match his jacked up interior.
Matsuda amazes me once again![/shadow]

Thanks for sending a heads up via email - I couldn't resist coming over here and checking it out.
I'm going to be in the minority here, and despite trying to view this design with an open mind, I really don't like it. Hopefully it will grow on me, but this is even harder to take than the Joker design.

Once again this team manages to surprise me. I had previously thought there was nothing new that could be done with this character, yet they've found a look that is distinctly their own. I like this look more than "The New Batman Adventures" look, which quite frankly, was plain and boring. I'll even say I like this more than his usual interpetation in the comics. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the "Animated Series" design, and I'll tell you why.
Riddler is a genius. He's a geek. His dress is at once snazzy and dorky, but always with a level of class. In the older version (from the 40's and 60's, thanks in large part to the television series) Riddler was more of a Joker knockoff, a manic prankster. While I'm glad to see that version not being used here, I'm also very worried that they are going to jettison the "genius" angle which has so defined him, as they are going for a sort of goth punk look here with this design.
I understand this series wants to focus more on action, but Batman needs to have a few cerebral villains, and Riddler is one of the best. I hope I'm wrong and his stories remain cerebral, just as much as I hope he doesn't bust out some kung fu moves for no reason. Batman has such a diversified group of rogues, it would be a shame to make Riddler just another freak with a gimmick.
In short, the design is unique and interesting, I like the look, but my final judgement is going to depend on the story direction and their characterization of the Riddler.

[shadow=green,left,300]A wonderful analysis Larry. Well thought out post, as usual!
However, I must disagree on one point. I don't personally feel that ones outward appearance has to affect their intellect. Just because he may not look like a genius, doesn't mean he isn't one! [/shadow]

Very true, Matt. Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for bringing that to my attention. This is especially true considering today's generation--many of the college kids or early twenties who excel at computer technology and the like have those skinny frames and longer hair. A sort of Neo Punk, if you will. To that end, a modern, younger Riddler would presumably follow suit. So, the more I think about it, the more I not only find myself enjoying this design, but what I think may be the general direction they are taking the character in.
Not to mention that Riddler is due for a major revamp in the comic books as well...out with the old, in with the new. Batman has always been about change, updating with the times...I believe it was Bob Kane who said that Batman changes every ten years or so. The fundamentals are still there, these are still the characters I know and love, but the change is necessary so that new generations can share and relate to this rich character and universe as well.

I have to say that I'm like Deadshot. I don't like this look for the Riddler, he looks much like Jim Carrey did at the end of Batman Forever. It doesn't seem like the style of the Riddler that I know, so I suppose the writers must be altering his personality too.
I think this is the most drastic physical change so far, more so than the Joker. I'm in the UK, so I haven't seen the cartoon yet, and I haven't seen the Clayface design, but I don't like this one. However, I will wait and watch the cartoon when it aires over here before I make my final judgement.

I dig it..
BUT WHY does everyone think it is SUCH a drastic redesign? It's really not,
I mean look: a) he's tall, lanky and weak - he was all that in the TNBA design, okay perhaps more so with this one, but still, still tall, lanky, and weak
b) he still has a green jump suit with a question mark on it.
c) He's even got his trademark mask.
I had "heard" things about "another" design for riddler, but I"m guessing that design was scraped or something. From the sound of it, I'm glad they went with this one instead.

[glow=Navy,2,300]Again a design I really like This Marilyn Manson influence is a great touch and it looks really creepy. Happy Halloween Thanks for share this great design with us Matt! Wow, Jeff Matsuda can really handle it to make charakters that I normally find boring (Penguin, Scareface & Riddler), to make them interesting for me! Okay this sentence is stupid written but I think you know what I mean [/glow]

I like the look. However, what will be more important is the voice and body language that will be key. I like to keep an open mind until presented the finished product. Let's give it a chance Batfans. remember how a lot of us scoffed at Michael Keaton many years ago.

I kind of like the design but I too have mixed feelings.
I would say, however, it would be pretty awsome to actually get Maralyn Manson to do the voice ;D
