As a counter to Batdan's frustration thread, this is the ALL STAR APPRECIATION THREAD!
DC- If you ever come on here, listen to me. I love the All Star line. Don't let these guys fool you. Miller and Lee are a great team for new stories of the All Star Dynamic Duo. Issue 2 reviews by some may have pushed back on the issue 3 release, but keep the All Star line going. I have been waiting years for your answer to the Ultimate line. Begins, The Batman, and All Star have all brought me back into Batman. Please keep All Star going and make more great All Star titles, including Superman.
The Batfan has spoken.

Agreed 100%, Batfan. I don't think it is at all fair the way everyone bashes this book; They say the writing's no good; I see it as different, but edgy and intruiging, and sophisticated. Is it because All-Star B&R is so radically different from what we've seen in the past that people reject it? I think it brings a lot of concepts to the table that haven't been written about, and I think that's good. The dialogue has been criticized, but I think it sets the mood. The book is really dark, but that's how Batman should be, IMO. Like Batfan said in another thread, what was everyone expecting - 60's camp? Bat-goofiness? I'd take this anyday. So, In short, I really don't know what everyone was expecting, but apparently this wasn't it, and apparently the fact that this book didn't turn out how they expected has to prevent them from respecting it.... If one doesn't like something, fine, but I object to how everyone treats this book as crap just because they personally don't like it. I know there are people who like it, but I guess we're the minority, which is unfortunate. I just hope DC doesn't interpret all this negativity to mean that people don't like dark Batman comics, because I don't know what I'd do if we returned to Batman-lite. This comic isn't perfect; even I know that. But few comic stories are perfect, and I'll bet this one will get better and better. That is, if it doesn't get cancelled due to said negativity.

If they cancel All Star Batman & Robin, I'm holding all of you(with some exempt) responsible! Hey, it's not perfect, but it's damn good.

For me, the artwork is so stunning that I am perfectly willing to go down whatever dark alley Miller wants to go; I don't think you can judge the writing on a line like this until the whole story is told. I remember the first time I read "The Sun Also Rises," thinking to myself "this dialogue is stupid; nobody talks like this!"...now I would never compare Miller to Hemingway, but I know that by the time I had finished reading the book I got it - I knew what the author was going for. I'm going to give Miller equal respect, and time to tell the story he wants to tell.

I love the All Star line. Not just Batman and Robin, but Superman as well. Bad reviews just don't sense for me. The All Star line is not continunity, so why are they badmouthing it like it was gonna replace it? I expected Frank Miller's Batman to appear in this work by Miller. We've all read DKR, DKSA including Year One. It would seem that anyone who has read those would know what they were about to read when this came out. I guess they didn't. If anything, they should've released this as a TPB/Graphic Novel. That way, we wouldn't try to wait for each issue to be released. In case anyone asks, no I don't hate it. I know it kinda sounds like I do, but no. I love it.

How many issues have there been? I have the first two, and they are pretty good, of course the artwork is amazing, and I like Miller's stories and having a different spin on Batman & Robin. Because the stories of the past where for that era and what is being told now is for today's era...in the world we live in today it is more harsh with alot of grit and evil, more than in the past where comics where goofy and not allowed to tell certain stories

1:
PLOT: Vicki Vale goes to the circus with Bruce Wayne. After seeing fantastic Dick Grayson, his parents are gun down. With Vicki on their tail, Gotham’s Corrupt Cops take Dick away. Only to stop, literally, by the Batman.
REVIEW:
Frank Miller has done great works, from taking on Daredevil and Punisher, to creating Ronin and Sin City. But on Batman, his masterpieces Dark Knight Returns “DKR” and Year One “Y1” have been seen by everyone and also made into movies like Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Begins. However, Dark Knight Strikes Again was mixed. Some liked it because it was a direct sequel to DKR. Others thought that the art didn’t look good.
Despite the reviews for DK2, DC Comics paired Frank Miller with artist Jim Lee from Batman: HUSH to do one of DC’s new All Star line; Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder. Much excitement was started after the announcement of these men with the new story on the Dark Knight. Then with Issue 1 hit the seleves, was it worth it?
Yes it was. Frank Miller’s Batman is psychotic but he doesn’t ignore what drove Batman into what he is. Miller called this his Year Two. Now, people got the expression that it couldn’t be a sequel, or what if sequel, to Year One because of so many things. I don’t see it as a sequel to Year One. The way Batman acts and he looks, tells me that this might be a prequel to DKR. But nothing to prove the point as of now until the series ends.
Robin, well Grayson, is basically the main character. He tells the story through his POV. He acts like what he should act like in other stories focusing on his origin. His skills at the circus showed everyone, even Batman. BTW, Bruce did not kill his parents. Vicki Vale was hot. I love that white dress of her’s. Her role hasn’t developed yet.
Overall, Issue 1 sets up this new Batman storyline. From Miller, it’ll be either great or mixed. Ether way, we got a new Batman by Frank Miller.
RATING: 8/10
2:
PLOT:
Batman takes Grayson into the Batmobile. On their way, Batman tries to get Grayson on his side while being chased by corrupt cops.
REVIEW:
Issue 1 was the introduction. Issue 2 continues to the point where our main story begins. What I saw from Batman ramming a dozen cops to the “soldier” and “kid” remarks, Batman was pure Frank Miller. And what to expect I should say.
The Batmobile is of course based on the Batmobiles from the comics. The idea of it flying was a surprise to me but it’s was tank like so the idea of DKR is still with me, while it could possibly be nothing.
Alfred at his young age proves he’s strong enough for action. I was sad to see the beautiful Vicki Vale in bandages. But Batman was portrayed as a mix of Miller and the real Batman. Issue 2 is still good and we have more to wait for when Issue 3 comes.
RATING: 9/10

I think he's like everyone else. Those who like it of course will get the rest. But those who hate it will still get the issues to see how this resloves in the end.
I think since the delays starting with Issue 3 means that Miller rewrote the rest of the series for the better.

FROM TOYFARE#103: Move over Adam West and Burt Ward! Our new favorite dynamic dou is Jim Lee and Frank Miller, writer and artist of All Star Batman and Robin, and DC Direct has already turned the book's stars into a highquality statue! Based on the cover to Wizard#168, this statue places the two on a rooftop ledge with their capes blowing in the wind. Why is Batman's cape so freaking huge? Because he's the Batman! Any All Star fans gonna get this? [shadow=red,left,300]*No profanity. remember we do have young folks who frequent the boards as well. -Bullock[/shadow]

Well, I don't collect statues and busts, and they are too expensive for me to do so even if I wanted to, but that does look like a cool one.

Any All Star fans gonna get this? I think that the comparison of the 'All-Star Batman and Robin' to the 1960's TV show is really appropriate. It's just that the TV show was a bit more hip and logical. Will I buy the statue? Only if I can use it to smash the head of Old Frank Miller (no relation to Young Frank Miller) for his five-year campaign to destroy Batman's good name. (Fortunately, Batman has got Christopher Nolan fighting the good fight to keep his rep clean.) BTW, your writing sounds suspiciously like it's been transcribed from an advertisement for that statue. I mean, I thought I was reading a pop-up until I saw your profile.

With all due respect to everyone who loves All-Star Batman and Robin, this book just isn't that great. Sure Jim Lee has done one hell of a job with the artwork but the writing.... I wanted Frank Miller to knock this one out of the park but sadly the book has been nothing of what I expected out of it.

His work over the past decade has been a travesty of nature.

I hope the delays are meant to improve the story. I will buy the remaining issues in hopes that they will get better and Miller can turn this thing around.

Why DC hires him anymore is beyond me. I buy this book for Lee's art, but lame writing and "flying" Batmobiles makes even good art hard to stomach. C.

For those who were planning on getting All Star#4 this month, you'll have to wait another month: www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=4547Okay, now I'm pissed. On another note, DC had All Star#3 for release date for last week. Which is weirf because they already released it a month before.

We all loved the new dark and gritty Batman from DKR and Year One, but when Miller goes a step further like Batman attacking the GCPD in All Star or killing Dick in DKSA, it's "OH, YOU'VE GONE TO FAR MILLER!" Not for me and some other members here.

Because all the All Star haters are giving such bad reviews, Miller's probably trying to change it for the better. Maybe if it didn't get those reviews, we'd have had issue 4 by now. Oh well, at least we get two issues in April.
