Man, these are great. Ill have to wait and actually see Joker and Freeze first hand before i decide to buy or not, i tend to stay away from repaints due to space issues. As stated several times above tho, Lex and Darkseid are must haves!

it would be cool to have this but i dont think its worth getting real upset over. i just look at it as one of the "perks" of being involved in the industry. remember, if everything was mass released, then nothing would be rare or collectible.

I have no idea what (if any) exact restrictions Mattel has regarding the character at this time. Other than they are still "working on it and looking into making him as a fig". DC however does still have restrictions upon exactly how they can use the name "Captain Marvel". This of course all still relates to the long ago Marvel lawsuit. It mainly effects how the name can be used in print media... primarily in Title form if Im not mistaken. As a result, for years since DC has had little option but to promote and refer to Capt. Marvel (and family) under the blanket heading "Shazam". To avoid confusion further, for years in the books, Shazam the character has been primarily referred to as "the Wizard Shazam" or simply "the Wizard" and the Capyain has been called Shazam from time to time. As such, most the populace at large, and a generation of fans recognize and associate the name Shazam as Captain Marvel, or make little to no distinction between the two. The names have become rather interchangeable (despite the technical facts). not once ever has a character called Captain Marvel, Shazam. he has never been referred to by that name. also the book you are referring to was called The Power of Shazam!. the titles have Shazam! in them, as that is what powers Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family. and Shazam is only referred to as the wizard by Billy Batson when he was in his child form. Shazam is currently deceased and Captain Marvel has taken his place and is now known only as Marvel. never has he been called Shazam. Shazam is what he used to say to turn into Captain Marvel. also i still cant see how he can be mistaken for Shazam. anyone who has ever read any comic featuring the Marvel Family should know the difference between the characters. and a quick question, since you think people think Captain Marvel is called Shazam, then do those same people refer to Captain Marvel Jr. as Shazam Jr.? what about Mary Marvel? is she Mary Shazam? come on man, no one that follows or reads comics and are fans of the characters get confused about who is who. but if i did happen to miss an issue or i've forgotten about something from a particular issue, please let me know when a character called Captain Marvel the name Shazam. because i dont ever recall him being referring to incorrectly. He was called Shazam in the Super Powers line. He was called Shazam in the Mego series. The 70's TV show was called Shazam! There was a cartoon called Kids Superpower Hour "with" Shazam.
Growing up in the 70's and 80's I always thought the character was referred to as both names because of all this. It wasnt until I was older when I found out it all had to do with name rights and such. I guess you missed all this stuff?

These look really cool. Plus with the size, they wont take too much space, which is a plus for me.
However, what I dont understand is this, why start a new DCU line in a different scale?? Why not continue with misc. DC characters in the existing line and bring us a Batman themed line? In a different scale if they want. Why cant we have a strict "Batman" toy line featuring the heroes and rogues???

and now, starting in 2010, Mattel has the WWE license. Check out the wrestling forums for that discussion.lol You think we're hard on them.
Mattel needs to do some serious improvements on their action fgiure front. Seriously.
Also, the lame, no answer answers they give us here on LoG is the same ones they give to the POA board as well.
Im gonna say this, if anyone was alive in the nineties and was a collector of Batman, they CANNOT be happy with the last 5 years of Batman toy products. It has become such a travesty that you cant possibly say that getting maybe 3 or 4 new figs a year is great. and thats if you can find them.

According to a representative, Mattel will "probably" rely more on comic book and specialty shops for their TDK figures, due to the dark nature of the movie. They say that this has been the plan all along.
Here is the link to the article:

Now, Im sure that the basic 5 inch line will hit retail stores, but does this mean that the more collectable figures will not be?

While it is very cool that they take the time to answer some questions, I dont really see a whole lot here that gives any good info. Im assuming that the The Batman line is done then after this "Justice League" wave, which doesnt realy bother me seeing as not one store in my area has carried these in months except for afew left over neon purple blue Batman variants.
It doesnt look as if they are going to do much about distribution problems either. They are just banking on the fact that there is a Batman movie that retailers will order lots of product. Also, cutting waves to 5 figures each, isnt that what they basically have been? Its the case ratio thats the problem.
I dont understand what they say about 2 packs and them being popular among collectors and retailers. What 2 packs? The last time I remember 2 packs was when they first got the license.
No news on if they will do past movies or cartoon series. No news on if they will try a collectors club. No news on if we will even have a good solid Batman toy line featuring all the heroes and villains and possibly vehicles and playsets. Im not talking the failed initial comic line or this new DCU line that features 1 or 2 Batman characters or the TDK movie line that, so far, features a dozen Batman variants and a Joker goon. All we ever get from Mattel is "well, you never know what may happen". Batman use to dominate the action figure aisle in the 90's, now its hardly represented and it looks like there isnt going to be much of a change, because from what we've already seen and from the little bit that we're being told, its gonna be the same things that has caused retailers to eliminate this license from their aisles to begin with.

After stumbling upon new 12", is this line going to continue with new releases of heroes and villains? If so, can we expect more frequent releases?
Any plans for a new Batman only toy line consisting of all the heroes and rogues?

I don't know why everyone thinks this line is so amazing. Because of the amazing sculpt detail, accuracy to the movie, etc. They look utterly fantastic. As opposed to what other mass produced Batman toy line? Like what's your gauge for such a harsh and basically biased opinion? Just as there is ... wait for it ... in ANY Batman toy line. Pretty damn simple too, why would this even make you upset? Don't buy the star light / star bright colored Batman figures. They're not made to cater to you anyway ... I mean beyond that, you fail to mention the fact that there is basically 3 or 4 different versions of the black TDK bat-suit that are dead accurate. Why complain? Just buy the accurate Batman figures. What villain figure was half assed? Deadpool? Oustanding ... Firefly ... Amazing ... sneak peek of 5 inch Two-Face? Out of this world. The Joker ... yeah, I'll address that in a second. Huh? Are you dense? Blind? Or mentally retarded? I don't mean to come off as that offensive, but you can't be serious. The 5 inch Joker is possibly the best figure in the up-coming 5 inch line. It is as accurate as they could be given the 5 inch lines nature and intent. I asked the Mattel rep back in August about this, and he even told me for the 5 inch children line, to only expect about 75% of what you'd see in the movie and/or on the adult aimed Collector's Line. Even so, the only detail thats missing is basically they made his neck white as well as his face, and they didn't sculpt the gruesome scar on his face. Everything else is dead accurate. From the creepy lean posture of the Joker that you see in the TDK trailer, to the pocket chain watch, to the black eye makeup, to the excelletently sculpted crazy hair ... and even the smile and facial structure all match Heath's exactly. They just skipped around making the figure too frightening. And even in not slapping the actual cut scar onto the face of the figure, the essence is totally captured of Heath's TDK interp of the Joker. And I mean totally. And really, to me it even has a creepy vibe as a figure. They even managed to slap an accurate accessory. The rocket launcher he so lethally weilds in TDK out of the back of his 18 wheeler of horror. Seriously, I'll post a few comparison shots of the sculpt w/ TDK Joker images, and tell me it doesn't look just the same. If you want the gore like details, get the collectors line figure at your comic store, and skip the kid friendly version. Hell, we are lucky to even be getting a Joker figure. Did you know when I discussed this issue with the Mattel rep, they said as a company they had a serious dilemma onto whether or not they'd even be able to release products to children of this character? He's that dark, twisted, intense and disturbing in this movie that they thought they would have a hard time marketing it to children. That's why you're getting the slightly diluted version in the kid's line. You didn't read that article back the summer Heath was cast, where they showed a prototype figure of what the Joker was to look like in the movie to a child, and they were terrified? And it isn't just about his disturbing image, his actions in TDK only amplify his character ten fold. That, I can't defend, but it makes sense from a business perspective. I'm sure there will be kids who will buy it. Who said they weren't? Cause I was told they are ... there is going to be two waves of figures. 1st wave is Joker, Gotham Thug, TDK Batman ... 2nd wave is BEGINS Batman, Two-Face, Scarecrow and the mattel rep said if the line was successful they would go about making more characters from there. So don't make assumptions. $7 bucks is a sexual assault to a customer's wallet? ... if you're a grown man willing to shed cash for action figures, and I assume you do so with regularity, you shouldn't be complaining about this move. It's a business, they're in it to make money. If the $7 is gonna hit you that hard, sit this one out champ. Hell, if it $7 for an extra figure you'd probably drop some time or another is that big of a financial burdern, why don't you skip spending currency on things as frivelous as toys altogether? You do come off as "that" offensive. Isnt this what got you banned on the SHH? He's just as entitled to his personal view and opinion on the toy line as you are. You have to attack him because he doesnt think this is the end all of Batman toy lines? There is nothing earth shattering about these figures. They are nice figs, thats it. They're toys, not golden statues.
Also, thats Deathstroke, not Deadpool. ;D

Well, the intial "rumor" was that the collectors line was suppose to feature the "ispired by" characters, but it looks like that was false. Who ever said that? I reported on SHH back in like August, what I was told verbatim from the Mattel rep, and I said the "inspired" character figures ... and I specifically named a movie inspired Firefly figure, would be in the 5 inch line. Where did I ever mention you?
I was referring to a discussion that was on the AFI boards awhile back.

Well, the intial "rumor" was that the collectors line was suppose to feature the "ispired by" characters, but it looks like that was false. Also that, yes, there was going to be updated versions of Ra's, Ducard, and Scarecrow. However there is a pic of the Begins Scarecrow on the back of the 5" package. Unless they are saving something for Comic Con but with a movie tie in line your release time is limited before interest begins to fade.

These figures are so cool!!! Now could someone please clear this up for me, with the six in. figs will the line consist of: Batman Unmasked Batman The Joker Goon Two-Face ?? Thanks-- Im editing my post because I was just over at AFI where they have a ton of new images. The only figs being shown as the 6" collectors line is the Goon, Joker and Batman. The unmasked Batman is being labeled on the package as a chase figure. There is no info on the Demon Bat tho on whether it will be a standard or chase figure.
Deathstroke and Firefly are part of the 5" line.
Also of note, on the back of ne of the 5" packages it shows a repainted Joker in a green outfit instead of purple, a repaint already?lol and also Scarecrow is nothing more than a rerelease of the Begins one.

It was also stated that the Hyper movie line "expansion fgiures" that have been mentioned is going to cinsist of newly done Superman Returns figs and possibly the now-in-limbo JL movie.] I don't understand what you mean. There have been rumors/reports that in addition to the actual TDK figs for the Hyper line, there were also going to be "expanded universe" figures, much like the Spidey line. I do believe Firefly was mentioned. Alot of poeple have been hoping that this would mean possibly getting figures from the past movies. Like they did with the Spidey line. Unfortunately, according to the SHH scooper, it isnt going to be from past Batman movies, but rather from Superman Returns and the possible JL movie.
Again, this is all "rumor" until something gets officially released from Mattel. Hopefully the question will be answered in the Q&A as this particular question has been asked many times.

According to the source who posted these pics on SHH, these are available for pre order from one of the internet toy dealers. Not sure who. Also, the Hyper Batman comes with interchangable heads, one being Bales mug.
The Hyper line looks to be okay, I want to see the others tho. Im really hoping they change the cape on the 14". if not, Ill just remove it and make my own.lol. The 5 inchers do not impress me at all. As said, it looks like nothing more than an extension of the Begins line. Too many costume variants, and we all know what happened with the Begins line. They got majorly reduced by retailers and started showing up at dollar stores.
It was also stated that the Hyper movie line "expansion fgiures" that have been mentioned is going to cinsist of newly done Superman Returns figs and possibly the now-in-limbo JL movie.
I really wish they would revisit the old franchise. Such potential.

12 inch fig looks okay minus the butterfly wings.
The Hyper figure looks good, but the articulation looks very limited and that better not be the Joker we're getting!
The 5 inchers, Ill skip those altogether.
Batmobile, well, been there bought that.lol
Overall, I must say that I am not impressed at all by these figures based on todays competitive figure lines.
